Hi guys, complete audio noob here.

I basically need some guidance on how to connect this old passive style sub woofer: http://i.cubeupload.com/EvYrYu.jpg

To my new style amp which is the Yamaha RX V467 - picture of the back here: http://i.cubeupload.com/wvSkv9.jpg

The amp only has one sub-input, which I know is compatible with the new style sub-woofers but makes the old subs a little more tricky to hook up.

I have only had 2 bookshelf style speakers connected into the FRONT L+R inputs of the amp but really need some bass as it sounds pretty crappy at the minute.

Any help will be appreciated and if any further info is required give me a shout!.

Thanks.

The simple answer is that you need to buy an amplifier for that subwoofer to use that plug on your amplifier.

The reason is newer receivers are made to work with "powered" suboofers, which have their own built in power amplifier, along with other circutry.

But, to be honest, it would make more sense, economically, to simply invest in a newer powered subwoofer. These can be had starting around $100 and only go up from there. For about $200, this BIC F12 offers great bang for the buck.

As an alternative you COULD use that subwoofer with your existing system by connecting it's inputs to the left and right speaker terminals of your amp, and your speakers to the output terminals of that subwoofee. Go into your receivers setup mode and tell it that you have no subwoofer.
