Need help connecting a Bose Acoustimass 16 w/ a reciever, and my TV

OK, I'm looking for some help on connecting a Bose Acoustimass 16 (6.1) to a Onkyo TX-SR573 (7.1) reciever & my TV (Samsung HP-4252). Currently my front 3 speakers are working, but my 3 back ones don't make any sounds. Also the front ones only sound good when the volume is around 45 (isn't that a little high?). If anyone could help me please post....

Please describe the speaker connections to the Bose 'bass module'. Is it the type where ALL of the speaker wires connect to the bass module?

If so, you want to run all of the wires from the respective speaker terminals on the Onkyo to the bass module and then go into the setup menus on the receiver and set every channel to Large and Subwoofer = No. That is because the bass module has to do all of the xover work to send the appropriate frequencies to the little cube speakers.

The TV video connection is easy. You can use composite or s-video connections from the 'monitor out' on the back of the receiver to the same type of connection on the TV (and then change the tv input to whatever the input to which you connected is named; ie if the input on the tv is named 'video 1', change the tv input to video 1). If you have (or will buy) component video cables, you can connect from the component video out on the back of the receiver to the TV.

You need to calibrate the levels of each of the channels. 45 would be normal if the room is very large. That's about half of the range of the volume scale.

What type of media are you playing through your receiver. Is it a DVD that is setup for 5.1 sound or what??? Have you set your speaker sizes on the receiver? Maybe try checking the speaker connections on the receiver. I see that your manual for the receiver has a lengthy troubleshooting section on no sound or quiet sound, check that as well. From the info provided it seems that there could be a number of things wrong. Just recheck everything as see if that might be the problem. Also, what persuaded you to purchase those Bose speakers?? I am just interested in knowing.

The wiring goes from the speakers to the bass module and from there to the reciever, now i'm getting excellant sound in the front but nothing in the back what could be the problem.........also how do you set the speaker sizes?.....and it says the reciever can connect an Ipod how, theres no USB plug...

Are you using a stereo signal or dsp mode out to your bass module?

Did you read the manual on the receiver/speakers?

Make sure its not in stereo. I checked online and there is no Ipod connection stated.

We can help you, but you have to be willing to learn and try to set it up right. Open the manual, and you will be able to find all the instructions on how to set up the speakers, but just incase you need the help, you can find out how to set it up on pages 32 and 33 in your manual.

All the setup can be done from the remote or the front panel. Press the 'setup' button to bring up the menu and use the arrow keys to scroll through the choices and change values. The 'return' key returns to the previous menu level.

The iPod is connected to one of the video inputs (video3 I think - my model doesn't have the new iPod functionality). The manual should explain the extra features available for controlling an iPod. Onkyo manuals are written a bit better than other brands and it should be straightforward to follow.

thanks everyone for the help...I was able to set-up everything right...I'm getting great sound from all the speakers...still can't find out anything about the IPOD thing though it doesn't say anything about it in the manual sooo any suggestions where i can find out something about the IPOd connection BTW movies on my 50" Samsung with the surround sound and everything is freekin awesome, I was shocked to see the huge difference sound makes, but yea thanks for all the help...

Page 14 and page 31 of the manual specifically mention the iPod. To use the extended functionality, you must also buy the DS-A1 dock, but if you don't you can still hook up the iPod to any audio input using a 1/8" mini to 2 RCA cable, available at Radio Shack.
