I've connected apple tv through hdmi. i can get audio from the apple tv but no video coming out. i tried similar setup prior without apple tv using dvi to hdmi converter then running hdmi to pioneer receiver but i would get sound and no video. i tried the bd and all 3 hdmi input slots. if anyone has any feedback please let me know

If this is a brand new ATV, what audio are you getting? There's a bit of setup to do before you can play anything, and you need the menu to do it.

The brand new ones just plug into HDMI and work. If this is a first gen unit that plays the startup sound, you could have a broken unit. All 1st gen ATVs would be used at this point, so it could be set to some video settings your TV doesn't like. You didn't specify the make/model of your TV, so it's hard to say. HDMI is supposed to work that out, but there are settings on both the TV and ATV that could lock either one into some incompatible state.

Ok, that's a little different, not a connection issue.

Can you stream audio and video from YouTube on your phone to ATV?

I think it can play Netflix & YouTube and few others, but not Amazon Video. One bad thing about Apple - very limited channels.

Roku or Panasonic BD & others will have more channels like Amazon, Vudu, Hulu, etc.

Have you tried the Amazon app?

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amazon-instant-video/id545519333?mt=8

As for "limited channels"...hardly. Everything mentioned is playable via content seller/renter's own apps. Just go to the iTunes store, do the free download, play whatever... Hulu, Vudu, certain networks...it's all there.

Pretty much nobody's going to want to leave out iDevices from their content, it's just too big a market. Their greed alone would have them whipping up an app just to play their stuff.

Oh, so you have to install these apps yourself? :D

I figured they would have pre-installed all the popular apps.

I'm new to this Apple TV myself since I usually use my Panasonic BD or HTPC for streaming. :D

I like AirPlay for music streaming a lot, though. :)

You install the app on the iDevice that's attempting to stream to the ATV via screen sharing.

Make sure all of the products have the latest firmware installed.
Since the Apple TV is not HDMI certified, frequently there HDMI inoperability issues...

Just my $0.02... ;)

Always a good idea to keep up with updates. In this case it's not an hdmi issue. He has audio and video via ATV, just no video from amazon to ATV. Thats a video codec issue that should be solved with thr Amazon app.

Okay, so I'm trying out Apple TV (connected to Denon AVP-A1 via HDMI) today for the AirPlay music.

My impression: it sounds like crap!

Is this normal?

How come the AirPlay on the Denon 3312 sound so good, but the AirPlay on Apple TV connected to my AVP-A1HDCI sounds like crap?

Okay I'm embarrassed.

As it turns out, Apple TV source level is actually 6dB LOWER than the rest of my system.

I got my digital SPL meter out and measured the sound levels. I usually listen to music on my AVP-A1 via the Sever. But the SPL of the Apple TV was 6dB lower than the Server. So I just INCREASED the Digital Source Level of the Apple TV to +6dB. Now Apple TV AirPlay music sounds as good as my Server. :D

Well, I did the AirPlay Mirroring. It projected my iPad screen onto my 120" screen alright. But when I played Amazon Prime on my iPad4, my Apple TV displayed the message "AirPlay mirroring currently not supported with this app".

I just updated the firmware also.

I just found this info:

"In what we think will be a thorn in the side of pretty much every Apple TV owner, Amazon Instant Video restricts AirPlay streaming to audio only. The same is true of some other video streaming apps, such as HBO Go, Max GO, ABC, and others. The restriction is likely due to some draconian licensing restriction, but Amazon would not comment on the matter to Ars."

So like I was saying earlier, Apple TV IS LIMITED!

apple tv

yeah when i do youtube it does play both video/audio on there. i downloaded the app on my iPhone for amazon and there is a button to play through apple tv on amazon app. it says it should play video through but no luck. i have old imac/macbook air as in late 2009 and late 2010 (joking about old), so can't do mirroring through mountain lion. my plan was to use air parrot, any other recs?

thanks for the responses.
