this is my first post, been readin lots tho.

i thought that reading some posts on this forum would help me choose the right display. boy was i wrong!

of course the very first thing i read was plasmas have burn in problems, so i automatically think lcd, and start looking for the best lcd i can afford.

through my journey of researching lcds i come across some more info on plasmas and dlp???? dlp = lots of screen for the dollar and plasmas arent prone to burn in???

so know wtf am i supposed to think? i had decided to go with a samsung ln52a650 or 750 lcd, but am now reconsidering for a plasma of the same size and calibre. and no, i havent even peeked back at the dlps yet.

so heres the basic scenario, display will be in the basement... 2 small windows that will have blinds, plan to have a blu-ray player, have satelite hd and xb360. seating approx 10 feet. now im a working man, so kuros are out of the question.....but at least point me in a good direction.

thanks:D

Welcome to the forum!

I'm going through the same thing, myself. Just today, I went to the store and saw the Samsung LN52A750 LCD at the same time as the Panasonic TH-50PZ80U plasma. It's the first time that I'd seen either TV.

My advice: go out and look at them for yourself. We can all look at them on our computer monitors and read the opinions of others, but what really matters is what we think of them ourselves. For example, I thought plasma would have a better picture, but the LCDs looked better to me in the store today. It could have been the set-up of the TVs, so I'm not making a decision on them based off of one trip, but it does have me thinking.

If your not a kuro guy, the Panasonic TH-58PZ800U should fall into your budget. If you go the LCD route, the Samsungs 650 and 950 series seem to be the top two, the latter being the better, but not sure about your pricing. As for burn in (speaking for panasonic and pioneer) you would have to try, and then probably not, to get an image permanent.

The Samsung LN52A750 is $2100. If you can scrounge another $300, you can have the Pioneer KURO PDP-5020FD. I recently purchased the LN52A650 and it should arrive tomorrow.

Is the depth of the display an issue for you? Why are you not considering a DLP?

If you're in a basement, without a lot of windows, how about front projection? Then you could be looking at a 100" screen!
