hello all....nice forum you have here.....i have a question you seem to get alot ...wich one of the 2 recievers to get....im looking at a pioneer and a yamaha....i can only imagine everyone will say yamaha but lets see..... i like some of the features of the pioneer ..first being the fact that its a good price when i have best buy match the online prices of 380. and second its thx 2 certified (but i hear that just a marketing gimmick)....anyway heres links to the recievers http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7034112&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03031&id=1099395572329 and heres the yamaha ...actually there are 2 on here that i like http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7067318&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03031&id=1108125945988 and http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7067345&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03031&id=1108125946150 now i would like to stay under the 600 dollar range so unless you really see that much of an improvement on the 700 dollar yamaha id rather buy one of the first 2 ....i currently have a 55 inch mitsubishi hi def widecsreen tv... a high def / tivo direct tv reciever..xbox 360 ....and a Sharp surround sound system....for now i just want to replace the reciever and buy a amplified sub ...wich leads me to another ? i was thinking of getting a 10inch sub but everyone says i won tget the low bass ...well my setup is in my basement of a brick home with cement tile ..that 6 inch sub that i have right now is sounding low ....anyway...thanks for reading all of this ..and looking forward to advice from some of you hardcore audio guys/gals

*Pioneer*

cheapskete OCer, I have a Pioneer Elite 7.1 THX myself. and I love it. Came with a three year warranty. I have heard a lot of good reviews from other people at other Forums on the Pioneer 1015. The one big thing you have to consider is bang for your buck, does it have all the features that are important to you, like does it have enough inputs outputs??? This receiver has MCACC which will make setting it up for surround sound a snap.

If I was buying today and could not afford another Elite I would buy the Pioneer 1015. Take a look at the return policy,so if you are not totally satisfied after you try everything out, you can always take it back.

I have a Paradigm 10" sub and it does the job for me quite nicely, again what I suggest is you try it out with your gear, its too hard to predict how things will sound in your home, your the one who has to be satisfied.Take a look at the specs, that will tell you how low it goes for frequency response. If you have a 6" now and find it low enough then I am sure a 10" will be fine for you.

Yamaha receiver

I would check authorized online dealers for better prices.
I picked up the Yamaha HTR-5860 for just over $300. I would recommend it and it should be comparable to the pioneer. If you are willing to spend more, you might be able to find a RX-V1600 in the $700 range or a refurbished RX-V2500 for <$500.

Also keep in mind that the HTR-5860 and 5890 are last years models and there are newer models out.

BB now has the 5860 on sale for $399 retail. That is $100 off the regular price and not a bad receiver at all.
