Need help choosing new AV Reciever

Just purchased a new Samsung 6168 DLP, and looking to upgrade for a new reciever. Should I be looking at a reciever with "Lip-Sync" capabilities?
Is there much difference between using component and HDMI? Do you I need a HDMI Reciever or just hook HDMI direct from (DVD player or Direct TV) box to TV, and the rest switched component through the reciever?
Of course looking for the best features for the budget. Any help would be appreciated or suggestions of a reciever to consider.
Thanks

A receiver with lip sync capabilities is a must IMO. That has become a pretty standard feature on newer receivers. Having the time correction takes a lot of time and headache out of initial setup and allows you to focus more on crossovers and dB settings. You shouldn't need an HDMI receiver unless you are trying to connect more than one HDMI device to a TV that only has one HDMI input and HDMI receivers can get pricey quick. The nice thing about HDMI is that it passes audio and video over one cable, but I personally haven't seen much of a difference in video quality over component video(which is based on limited auditions... and should be taken with a grain of salt.) Your best option is to try a side by side and see which you like better. What is your budget and what options do you have to have? Which can you live without? That would help to offer more precise reccomendations on products. Hope this helps.
