Need help building PA system speakers

I need help building speakers for a PA system. I have never built a speaker system before and so it would be really nice if you guys explain things to me simplified and in details. I don't need connection and circuit diagrams because I got a friend who is going to do the wiring. All I need is the box design (measurements) and how many speakers, woofers, tweeters etc I need for a complete range of sound and their placement in the cabinet. I would be outputting vocals and guitar through the speakers and they should be capable of handling that. I don't need to output bass as I already got a bass amp. I am looking for around 500W output. Please help!

You should check out Parts Express. They have tons of woofers, tweeters, 'build your own speaker' kits, instructions, etc., etc.

He needs to do a little homework first. It isn't as easy to do it and get decent results as most people think.

He's basically saying he's got a friend with sharp knives who is willing to use them but just needs a few directions on how to do surgery.

markw you got me. My friend will build the system for me but he needs direction. I have to tell him the box measurements and how many speakers I'll be needing and how to place them.

Again, it's not quite that simple.

It's a pretty complex project to do it right. Short of having a pro spec it out for you, perhaps you can get better answers at this forum. They deal with this stuff every day and perhaps can put you on the proper path to enlightenment.
