What are you watching? If the dvd is 4:3 or 4:3 letterboxed you will get the bars. If the dvd is 2.35:1 (very wide) you will still get bars because the aspect ratio of widescreen is 1.78:1.

Most tvs have a 'stretch' or 'zoom' mode that can be used to fill the 16:9 screen.

yep. it's normal. try a DVD that is 1.85 to 1 (like the original Resident Evil) instead of 2.35 to 1. On the DVD box, it will say something like Aspect 1.85 (or 16:9). It will fill up the whole screen.

no need to buy anything. you would see the same thing using a DVD player. no need for panic.

breathe.

breathe.

in. out. in . out... there, all better now. :)
