I hope some one can help me,I brought A 42"Sony grand wega rear projection about 3 weeks ago.I notice that it was a little out of focus.but thought nothing of it,because I was having direct tv come in and set me up with HD.The problem is that all my regular channel come in out of focus with shadows. It has now gone to my HD channels.I was hoping someone could give me some reasons this might be happening.I am using the connection that direct tv game me,notHDMI cables.I also notice lines and little dots in the picture.I was hoping if someone can tell me if this can be fixed or is it something that is wrong with the sony television?

I hope someone can help me or advise me.
Thanks
Jim

Yeah he did, but it was in the wrong section (suggestions), so I suggested that he move it. Do you disagree with me? SAUMURAI BATTLE!

Anyway, what kind of connection did DirecTV install for you? Component video I hope (the kind with red, green, and blue RCA plugs)?

I'm not a big time TV man, so hopefully BMX and Brian will get their arses over here...

I'd suggest that you pick up an Avia or DVE (Digital Video Essentials) DVD and use that to tweak your TV. Many times a TV right out of the box will not be calibrated and set correctly. I highly doubt it's a connection issue, so I would return the HDMI cable and just work with the component video.
