Need good wall mountable speakers, help please

My son is about to learn how to crawl and will be walking and falling down a lot shortly after. Right now I have large floorstanding speakers and large bookshelfs on stands which my wife has deemed unsafe in her attempt to babyproof the house. My wife and I have decided to reclaim a bit of our living room this summer by getting a flat panel tv and wall mounted speakers and just put everything on the wall and move the AV equipment to a rack off to the side. I am going to wait on the TV since the prices have been coming down so rapidly, but I really need to start looking into the speakers since I don't know much about wall mountable speakers. I would like something that would compiment the look of the wall mounted TV, but I would also like them to go down the 80hz. Klipsches RVX-42 only goes down to 92hz or so, but I like the type of look. I don't want something really bulky hanging on the wall like a big bookshelf box that was not meant to be there. Any suggestions on what we should buy? Does anyone here have a nice wall mounted setup?

Check out the SVS speakers. They are sealed enclosures and can be wall mounted. They should work fine down to 80Hz.

Any bookshelf can be wall mounted. You only need a good, sturdy wall mount.

Klipsch bookshelf speakers

If you like the Klipsch sound, there are a variety of brackets and mounting options for bookshelf speakers of reasonable size and weight. Check out the products from onmimount and other manufacturers.

For surround speakers, the dipoles from the Klipsch reference series would work great. Many manufacturers also offer on-wall or inwall speakers but they tend to cost more than comparably performing bookshelf speakers.

Here are also some techniques for using sand or lead shot to increase the weight and stability of speaker stands.

I was kind of trying to say I don't think my wife would like to have normal bookshelf speakers mounted to the wall, I need something that won't stick out much farther than the TV. I was browsing a bit today and and noticed the Cinema 220 and 330 LCRs from Paradigm. Anyone have these or heard them, or know anything about them? They look like what I need, only thing is my local Paradigm dealer doesn't carry the Cinema series (but can order them for me) so I can't listen to them before I buy them. However, I am very fond of the Monitor series, I wonder if they have that similar Paradigm sound?

jman...just out of curiousity...how heavy are those sf-3 towers? My two sons never came close to knocking my rf-35s over...I imagine mine are abit heavier but remember, your child is not going to be pushing them inward from the top but rather only part way up (if at all)...so do a personal test and see how much effort it takes to rock them part way up the cabinet.

Now if you're just looking for an excuse to go out and buy some new cool audio...ignore what I just said.:D

I agree on the towers and for the most part my wife does too, Its the SB-3s on the Bello stands for the rears that have her worried. They are pretty large speakers to have in the rear. One thing we might do is to just switch those out for some klipsch wall mounted speakers like SS-3. The key reason I am looking into this is A) reclaim space in living room currently consumed by one of the largest CRT TVs ever made B) All of my electronics currently reside under the TV on my Bello TV stand no more than 1 foot off the floor, where my son can go button happy and C) I think having a wall mounted system in the living room would be a lot more appropriate not to mention the fact I have a chance to get a larger screen TV and new speakers to try out all with my wife's blessing (which may happen only once in my life when all the planets align).

My 2 cents??? Your wife is going overboard babyproofing. Keep the towers and teach your child to leave them alone and not to climb them:cool: Anyway, you probably wont have to worry about them being knocked over. If you do your job, and teach them that speakers are a 'no no', it wont be a problem.

As for the stands?? I'd keep them too, but in no way would I EVER sell speakers solely because I no longer wanted stands. Just buy brackets rated for their weight, and wall mount your current surrounds. And this is coming from a parent of 2.

PS....You dont want speakers that can only go down to 80hz if you intend to use that as a crossover point. I would never consider a surround that didnt go 'at least' down to around 60hz. Keep in mind that a crossover point is a 'rolloff' point, and it's not a sharp cutoff. Dont take this the wrong way, but having children is no excuse to ruin your HT.

My 2 cents....

Paradigm speakers

The paradigm Cinema series will look good next to a plasma, but with 4" drivers, they compromise on performance. Check out the on-wall version of the Paradigm Monitor series. For demo purposes, they should sound the same as the bookshelf version in stock at the dealer. Minimonitors, 20's or 40's up front with the dipoles for surrounds should make a great HT.

Axiom Audio also makes an on-wall speaker in the same price range that would work well with their center channel and surrounds.

Yeah I dropped abit of doe on some surrounds but alot of guys won't....and looking at your system I think I'd keep what you have and spend the extra cash on the tv/monitor and get the best you can, maybe something with 1080p and/or larger screen size.....my 2 cents!

And ditto what buckeye said bout the teaching the kids to stay away from the equipment.....If the receiver is real low where he/she can reach it it may be abit of a prob for abit plus they do get it kinda grimey (spelling?)/ or slimey...lol. If your able to mount your equipment higher on the wall on some wall racks and don't mind running the lines that way, I think it does look real nice and you wont have to worry about them getting into it...go for it! Just be sure to post pics when you're done!:)
