Need Emergency Help!

Hello, I have a party starting in about two hours. I have a HTR5890 with full surround. Everything works great except.....

I also have my entire house wired with two speakers in each room. Now all the speakers in all the rooms work great. The problem is this..

I'm trying to hook up an external amp using the Pre-out on the Yamaha to an older Pioneer I have. This is how I have everything connected.
RCA's from the pre-out going to a LD input on my Pioneer. Both amps are turned on but I am not receiving any sound in my extra rooms. I know the external amp is working because when I switch from LD to tuner my rooms have sound.

I'm thinking it might be a settings issues with the Yamaha.

Thank You :)

Corey R.

Corey,

I'm about to look through the Yamaha owner's manual, but this came to mind. Does the LD input on your Pioneer have the ability to either be a digital input or an analog input? If so, make sure that you have it set to "Auto" or "Analog" for that input, or it will only use the digital input.

Corey,

You may need to turn up the volume on the Pioneer higher than normal when using the pre out connection to the Yamaha. The owner's manual says to set the volume of the external amplifier to maximum.

The pioneer is from 1995 so I would assume it would only receive analog. I now have sound but it is very low. I have the volume all the way up on the pioneer and it is very low coming out of the speakers. I think the output on the Yamaha is variable, how do I set it to fixed? Is this considered a zone 2? I have the option to change from var to fix for zone2 and zone3 but I don't think it's a zone since I am plugged into pre-out and not zone.

It seems like the zone connection would work just fine for you if you fed those through the Pioneer (although, turn the volume down on the Pioneer first!).

Can you use the zone connections, or are those already in use?

From the owner's manual: "To use an external amplifier in Zone 2, set ZONE 2 AMP to 'OFF' in SET MENU."

Looks like Zone 3 won't require that.

Alternatively, you should be able to use the "OUT (REC)" RCA jacks for the CD-R, MD/TAPE, VCR 1, or DVR/VCR 2 components on the back panel of the Yamaha. Those should all be fixed outputs.

Ah, never thought of that. I will try that right now

That will only work if they are set to loop and it is on that particular source. What is the problem with using the variable output?

How many speaker pairs did you say are hooked up to the Pioneer?

How loud are you playing it?

Are you using an impedance matching switchbox or impedance matching level controls on each speaker pair?
