hello all, I have a big question,
I currently have a pioneer 1015tx 7.1 thx select 840w reciever.
I really like it but the crossover setting are extremely limited from 80Hz to 50Hz, thats it :(

I just got a new sub (epik Knight) and yes it badass but my room acoustics are killing me, after 3 hours of moving the sub all the way around my 16'x27' room 8" at a time im getting some small dropoffs above 67Hz in one spot that i like, and my polk speakers are only rated down to 60Hz so with my current reciever im only able to set my crossover at 80Hz

I have been wondering what a yammy sounds like since everyone says the pioneer and yamaha recievers have a different sound to them i would like to know wich one i like. So i plan on picking up a new reciever at BB or CC and seeing if that does the trick. If not i have 30 days to return it so im not losing out,

I have been looking at the yamahas and wow there are alot of choices so many letters and numbers..lol

I need suggestions on one that has plenty of crossover options but not lacking any of the features of the pioneer 1015tx

It does not have to thx select certified, but another thing im interested in is the hdmi inputs, because i have a toshiba hd a2 and isnt it true that you can recieve DD+ signals through the hdmi cable even if your reciever is not DD+
certified? It just shows up as DTS on the reciever correct?

Anyway one other brand i was looking at was a harmon kardon that BB

or maybe a onkyo

i dont know..lol Thanks for reading the long post and any advise is welcome

oh yeah i would like to keep the price under 600

Well, the Pio and the Yam do sound most similar when properly tested, I bet. In another word, no audible differences in their design limits, levels matched.:D
That 80Hz crossover is the THX preferred crossover and that should work with what you have. The 60 Hz point is with a good bit of drop off.

I would not worry just set your sub at 80 Hz and properly level match all your speakers. If you have sub issues , that is a room interface issue causing it. May need to do bass traps and EQ?

I suggest the Pioneer VSX 1017THVK(500$), i just bought it, I did MANY hours of researching, i found it to have the most features and preform the best in that price range Also it has a much wider crossover range, 50hz,80hz,100hz,120hz and150hz, i think those # are about right, i know for a fact it goes from 50-150hz, but it does not do it in fixed increments, but roughly in 25hz increments. Anywho i just got it its awsome. It offers advanced EQ which will adjust the EQ depending on your unique room configuration using a setup mic. That will help with the acoustics issues.

Bear in mind that both 1015 & 1017 are HDMI video switchers only and that means you'll only have VIDEO signals thru HDMI. That also means you'll always need to add an optical and/or coaxial cable for the AUDIO...

Considering that you already have an HD player, the best bet for you - in order to take advantage out of the new HD audio formats - is to get an AVR that processes both (audio & video) thru HDMI, otherwise you'll never be able to enjoy the new audio formats in all its glory, due to the bandwidth limitations by using either optical or coaxial cables.

The upcoming Pioneer 1018 will do the audio over HDMI, but I don't think it will be on the market until June or so. It looks like a promising unit, though.

Im looking for a good reciever that will allow me to set the crossover at 63 Hz or so not 50 or 75Hz my 1015tx has the mccac mic but no hdmi inputs..I hope im not sounding offensive im just wanted to make sure we are all on the same page ;)

also i dont understand how you guys are saying there is no sound difference between a pioneer and yamaha? I have read countless threads on how people prefer one over the other, most people say the yammys sound brighter, some like some dont

as far as setting up bass traps and things of that nature i have no experiance in that. I have my speakers set up correctly not only with the pioneers mccac but i also double checked it with avia and dve tuning dvds and a spl meter i would just like to hear my system with the crossover at 63Hz beings the polks i have are rated down to 60Hz

Thanks for the input, keep it coming

Are bass traps expensive and hard to place?
and what are my options fo ran EQ?

Im willing to try anything really. Im just picky but for the money i have invested i would like to not have anything to complain about..lol
