Need Advise: Alternative Zones

Hey Y'all

I got a Marantz SR5010 driving a 7.1 setup in my family room. However I have two extra speakers in the kitchen and two more on my patio. My goal is simply to have both of those extra zones spit out two channel copies of whatever is playing on the main 7.1 setup at adjustable volumes.

I tried using the pre-amp (left and center channels) out to another receiver RCA two channel inputs (a old Pioneer receiver I had from before the Marantz). No sound whatsoever. For the time being I bought a crappy pile amp on amazon for the kitchen speakers and it almost works although max volume is barely enough but it wasnt powerful enough to power the outdoor speakers.

What I would rather is something I can drop the pre-amp channels FL,C,FR,RR,RL to another device that would smoosh them back into 2 channel audio and then power speaker sets A and B and different controllable volumes (or at least be able to set the channels so they both produce the same volume and that be controllable). I dont know if such a device exists.

So yeah, I dont know why the pre-amp out to the Pioneer failed me, nor do have a good idea what would work better than buying two powerful amps to take in center and left which is kind of crappy. Any advice would be welcomed.

Oh just in case you are wondering, most of the time the extra zones are off when watching TV, however when playing music I like to be able to fill the kitchen and if having a party get it outside as well.

If your using zone 2 preouts, you need analog cables along with digital. The marantz cant process digital audio via zone 2 according to the spec sheet. You just need a stable two channel amp and a speaker selector after running analog cables in addition to the digital.

On that model to leverage the 7.1 there is no zone 2. I’ll I have out of the marantz is the 5 channel preamp outputs which are analog rca. Need to figure out how to leverage that to a new amp

So your saying that the zone two preouts dont work when you have 7 speakers hooked up? The preouts still should work, I'll download the manual when I get home, but on the units I've owned that hasnt been the case.

Just looked at the manual quickly, didnt say anything about preouts not working for zone2 for any reason.

Oh so I didnt even know there was a zone 2 pre-out. I was able to utilize that for now. Only suckful thing is that I need to enable all-zones to get zone 2 playing zone 1 content which removes everything other then multi-channel audio which I guess is fine given I would only do this for music. And the Pinoeer was working its just the preamp signal was so low, I jacked up the channels to +12db and then I was able to get sufficient volume for A and B sets of speakers. I guess for now this is fine.

I think I tossed it on CD, but I am open to any of them. The multi-channel only is actually on the Marantz though

Just keep the volume up on the pioneer, and use the zone 2 volume to raise lower. The low volume could be due to inadequate speaker gauge fyi
