I had a thread earlier to choose between the Yamaha MX-2000 or the MX-1. They have an MX-2000 on eBay right now and is at $600 and will go up some more. They also have an Yamaha MDX-1 which is retail is at close to $5000 and on eBay for $1200. So i need to ask the expert in here, is it worth to spend extra and get the MDX-1 for $1200 or get the MX-2000(which is so beautiful) for $600-or more? Please help!!!

This appears to be a duplicate of this thread: http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47769 You will get better response if you only post one thread on the same subject.

What does the rest of your HT system consist of , especially your current pre-pro, and amp or AVR and your current speakers ?

There is no meaningful performance reason to choose one over the other so you might as well choose whichever rings your chime.

The MX-2000 is rated at 130w @ 8 ohms. The MX-1 is rated at 200w @ 8 ohms and is rated down to two ohm. The MX-1 looks on paper like it is a more substantial amp. Whether it's worth more $$$ is something only the OP can answer.

I've been wondering - is it the MX-1 on eBay, or is there an MDX-1? I can't find an MDX-1. If you'd post a link, that would be great. Thanks.

Assuming his speakers aren't hard to drive, the difference between them is about 2 db. Like I said, there isn't a performance reason to choose one over the other.

Sorry if i repost again, but there are 2 completely different questions. My question was if Im gonna spend about $700 on the Yamaha MX-2000 which is 20 years old or the MX-1 for $799 on ebay. Why not spend extra hundreds and get the Digital Yamaha MDX-1 for $1200 on ebay. My question is if the Digital MDX-1 rated at 500 WPC X 2 considered better, since I do not know anything about Digital Amp. Please help out before I make stupid decision. Thanks

Here is the link to the Yamaha MDX-1 on ebay.

Yeah, listen to the nice sniper. :D
Just kidding, Adam is great. :) That seems like a lot of money to spend on eBay for something you're not familiar with. Good luck to you.

We dont have to fight for it, ebay actually have 2 MDX-1's for sale right now as "buy it now". So happy buying. Can anyone in here tell me how good is the MDX-1, it has to be good since it is from YAMAHA... Thanks all.

Just to clarify for other readers, it is the MX-D1 (explains why I couldn't find it anywhere :)). I can't say how well it sounds. There are some positive reviews out there (e.g. Stereophile). It sure is a nice looking amp.

It's been mentioned before, but it bears repeating: You may or may not notice any difference between your receiver and either of these amps. It depends on how loud you listen to stuff. The MX-D1 seems to have plenty of power (likely far more than you'll need with your current speakers), is efficient and runs cool, and really is a very nice looking unit. The MX-2000 has a lower power rating, probably runs pretty hot, but is just gorgeous and a piece of vintage amp beauty.

I don't think that you could go wrong with either choice, assuming that the sellers are trustworthy. From memory, the seller of the MX-D1 has 100% positive feedback on eBay, and that's a good thing. I would suggest contacting the seller to ask about warranty coverage (Yamaha probably won't honor the warranty through them, but they might offer one of their own).

I respectfully disagree, and I own two of their amps. The OP is looking for Yamaha, anyway.
Yamaha might not be the best for speakers, but their Amps and Receivers are top-dog out there. I will never look into any brand as far as sound system...

-Yamaha Soavo 1, Yamaha RX-V3800 - Current
-Yamaha MX-2000 or Yamaha MDX-1 - Soon

Waste of money if the idea behind this is enhanced performance of your system. Why bother with these low powered and over-priced antiques? Now, if you are doing it just for cosmetics or as a collectible, then that is about the only valid reason to get the discussed units.

As for Emotiva -- they gave up the last of their special values when they discontinued the LPA-1, so far as I'm concerned. Frankly, you can do better with pro amps so far as power output vs. value.

If you want Yamaha, they have some super pro amps that are completely transparent. Check out P2500S, P3500S, P5000S and P7000S. The P3500S, for example, is 350 x 2 into 8 ohms or 450 x 2 into 4 ohms, 20hz-20,000Hz, both channels driven. At $500, it's a much better value then the antique you are talking about, and it has a full warranty. Now, being a pro amp, it is a bit low in sensitivity, since pro devices expect a higher voltage line signal. But you can get a high quality interface/conversion box for about $50-$60 to mate consumer devices with only RCA out plugs on them to the pro amp. Or, ideally, if you want to have higher sound quality in your system, add a device like the Behringer DCX2496 or similar DBX unit, that will give you precision control over your speakers, and also allow seamless integration of main speakers and subwoofers, far beyond what any receiver can do for you. You would not need a conversion box here, as the DCX has pro level outputs to directly feed the pro amps. The input on the DCX has a very low noise input gain stage that is variable, and was designed with hooking consumer level inputs to it also, so you only need an adapter plug, not a conversion box, to feed it's inputs.

Thanks for the advice, that what was ive been thinking about. The MX-2000 was mainly for show, beatiful antique and in the same time it is 20 years old. Im a novice at sound sytem, I am on the road for the Yamaha MX-D1, 500wpc X 2. Will this amp be compatible with my RX-V3800 and my Soavo? Since it is a digital amp, or a D-class amp, whatever.. Thanks man
