Need Advice With Reciever / Subwoofer Setup

Ran across these forums looking in vain for some guide or advice in trying to setup my new receiver and sub-woofer. I'll give some background on what I had before so you can hopefully understand what I am trying to do. Doesn't seem complicated, but it's got my confused!

Previous to a couple days ago, I had a Harman Kardon AVR140 Receiver and a Polk Audio PSW10 sub-woofer. I am the second owner of the receiver and sub-woofer. The old setup was to run the FL/FR speakers into the corresponding jacks on the receiver, and sub-woofer into one of the "tape out" connections. This worked for 3 years, all was well.

Fast forward to yesterday. New receiver, an AVR154, same sub-woofer. Try to setup it up in the same fashion as it had been previously and I get nothing from the sub-woofer. I've looked through the manuals for the both the AVR154, AVR140 and the PSW10, and cannot find anything that says "Do this to run a sub-woofer through the tape out". My searching around online lead me here and to this post.

Things that are worth noting.
1) I am a total home theater noob.
2) I am happy to change the setup, if someone has the patience to walk me through :)

Cheers,
Lawrence

Use the PRE-OUT subwoofer output

There is no need to use "tape out" connections, just connect the AVR145's PRE-OUT SUB WOOFER output on the back of the AVR145 (manual p.20) to either the L or R input jack on the back of the PSW10.

In fact, according to the AVR140's Quick Start Guide, it also has a PRE-OUT Sub-Woofer output, so I am not clear on why the "tape out" connection was used before.

Good Luck,
