Need Advice With Newly Purchased Sub.

Hello Audioholics,

This is my first post, and I just purchased the new Emotiva Ultra 10 Subwoofer on sale for $329 (it hasn't arrived yet). This is my first sub, and I was hoping to get some advice from those in the know about how best to set it up, and to have some questions answered.

My power plant is the Marantz SR-4023, which is a stereo receiver but it has a single subwoofer output. The Emotiva has left/right RCA inputs and my question is why does a sub, being mono only, need left/right jacks, and how does this fit into my single sub output. Obviously I will need some kind of adapter but what? What if I want to go with two subs in the future?

I want to place the sub(s) right in front on the left and/or right side between my CD storage cubes (where the speakers rest on) and my component rack. I'd prefer not to put it in a corner or hidden away somewhere, but if that would be better, then please do say so.

My speakers (for now) are Behringer B2030P Bookshelf monitors and I'd like to stick with this type of speaker size. I don't have the exact measurements of my room but I'd say it's a small to medium size room.

What would be the ideal calibrations with crossovers and such for this sub with these type of speakers in this room? I don't intend to turn the sub up too loud, and I mainly want to use it for music.

I have a Ultra 12 and the left & right inputs are the same signal, just use one or the other and it will work fine with your single rca sub out on your receiver,no adapter needed.

as for placement, the best thing to do is try it in all the available places you are thinking of putting it and see where it sounds the best to you in your listening position.

OK, thank you for the info on the RCA Inputs on the sub, I just read that in the PDF manual ( I suppose I should have tried that first). If I want to get two subs, then I need a Y-adapter correct?

Also, since my Marantz SR-4023 is only 2-channel, I would assume that it doesn't have it's own low pass/high pass filters or anything, and that I need to use those provided with the sub?

,I can't find anything on the "sub out",if it is low pass filtered out,I would assume it is,try it with the sub xover bypassed and see how it sounds, then try it with the sub lpf on.

How will I know what it should sound like if the receiver does or doesn't have low pass filtering?

Congrats on the EMO. I just purchased two EMO Ultra Sub 12's and love them. Had them about 2 weeks. I suggest you get a new receiver with two sub outs. I just got the Onkyo TX NR708 on sale for $599. It's a 7.2 and streams Pandora, Slacker, Rhapsody and others. Loving it. I'm running 4 ohm Polk LSi9's so I'm running a separate amp to power them. EMO UPA-7

I'm happy with my Marantz for now. I've only had it for a year now. I may upgrade my receiver in the future when the rest of my system is in place but it's not at the top of my audio list right now. Plus, I can always just use a Y-connector.

I'm not sure what all that stuff is, your talking to an old school boy here!
