Hello-Im new to forum so bear with me if I seem uninformed-Im working on tweeter box to upgrade frequency response for DVD-A Titles with my current system-Ill be using 2 tweeters per box-1 Realistic Bullet Super tweeters (40-1310) 8 ohms, Internal cross-over.-- Freq. response is 5000- 40,000 Hz
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5789408204&category=3276&ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1
and 1 Foster Ribbon Tweeter I found after reference from site http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60405
They were out of stock so googled Foster Ribbon Tweeter and found them here
http://www.allenorgan.com/store/aostore.html
My question is How to best wire them to run from my 8 ohm speaker feeds from amplifier since both are rated at 8 ohms and the Fosters require a 6,4000 HZ crossover-The realistic has a built in crossover.
my box will be simple closed wooden box found here
http://www.dickblick.com/zz604/22/
Ive never built a crossover but I imagine a 2nd order crossover modified for high frequency or just inline capacitors will work -I need details - part #s etc.especially on how to link the 2 8ohm so will be compatable with my amp.thanks for any and all help-doccbst

You can just put the caps in series with the individual tweeters, and run those in parallel with your mains. You are going to have level matching issues though.

I don't understand what you think having 2 tweeters per box is going to do for you? Neither goes deep, you're going to need a dedicated midrange driver if you use either or both.

Well--Lets see-the bullet tweeter has different characterists from the Planar/ribbon(im pretty sure its not a true ribbon altho sold as one but for $25 Ill try it)and the high frequency cutoff is different for each --The Bullet--5000hz --(5000-40000 hz) the other tweeter_Foster Ribbon Tweeter
is 6,400 (6400Hz-40000) so im sure there is some audible difference there--The rest of my system is all ---Bose---(i know most of people out there hate them but Awesome sound)--2-901's--6 -141's--2 powered subs -(1 LFE) and (1 sub-bass from speaker feeds 20hz-80hz)--so in essence I have all the bass I need --all the mids but audibly lacking in high freq.Bose does not pulish freq response but I think around 18000 hz --20.000 max as most bose tweeters Ive seen-are rated.DVD-A tops out at 192,000 Hz for stereo some 5.1 are 96,000 Hz--most are 48,000 Hz--I know our ears are limited--Nyquist etc.But I can hear the difference-even between formats-I installed 2 Polk audio PAHT6 supertweeters-thats 12-total 12 Piezo Tweeters 4000khz-27000 khz and Yes--I can hear the difference-DVD-A is awesome!!!-But they are visibly Ugly with the Bose setup-so Im going for smaller and better-(40,000 Hz)-any help appretiated-P.S Im hoping to use Potentiometer(s)to even levels out if I can figure out how to wire all of this together-thanks for interest-doccbst

There certainly will be differences in the tweeters. The part I don't understand is why you feel you need to use both of them. A mix of tweeters that are different I would imagine would create some poor sound due to interference and mixing of "interpretations". I'd say spend the money on 1 better tweeter instead of 2 of those.

Im going from a Technical standpoint--if it sounds bad--Ill start over- and have egg on my face,if it sounds great, Ill be happy--I just need help to figure out wiring--I found sonicaps capacitor 2.2 uf(best guess from calculators/charts ive found) for ribbon $8.00---do i need an inductor also--or just use cap as limiter--If I use potentiometer--should this be wired into cap or can i go directly into speaker and limit there and it looks to me that the 2 tweeters should be in parallel--two 8 ohm = 4 ohm then wire this box in series with mains=4 ohm + 8 ohms =12 Ohms, my amp rated 8-16 ohms--please tell me if im getting warm-Ive built about 6 computers but have never fooled with audio electronics-thanks

Almost there!!-recieved all components and assembled(for testing) 1 box--used 2nd order Linkweitz -Reiley equations crossed over at 7450 Hz --ended up with 2 adjustable L-Pads-one after crossover and one for Bullet tweeter--Bobad was correct-the Bullet is a lot louder so attenuation was mandantory here--- even with bullet pointed to rear-also inserted 4 ohm resistor after the 2 paralled tweeters to achieve 8 ohms for box.
So now I have control over volume levels for entire system and can balance individual tweeter levels as well as having 8 ohms to match with other(main) speakers,I can either wire parallel for 4 ohm or series for 16 ohm--will try both to see benefits.
Tested on BoomBox with CD(Whitesnake) and the additional high frequency was very noticible-( clear-not to bright-quite nice actually) from high hats-guitar etc.--
Will test with Bose system tonight with DVD-A (48,000 Hz) and compare to Pyle Pro PHAT6 Piezo tweeters @ 27,000 Hz and fine tune for final assembly.
Will post results and findings later.
Thanks for all assistance-especially Bobad-Cheers
