Need advice on these 3 receivers

I'm looking at the following receivers because I want the HDMI upcoversion done at the receiver and my Sony 50" LCD will only do 720P anyway.

1) Would these receivers be overkill because of the 720P native resolution of my TV?

2) Can I run HDMI cables and still get 5.1 sound, without running audo cables from the sources to the TV?

Denon AVR-3806

Onkyo TX-SR804

Yamaha RX-V2600

I would appreciate any feedback on these receivers, I think the Yamaha has better features.

thanks

Receiver options.

1) No, chose your receiver based on the audio features and power you need for your speaker system. Video features are nice, but you can always connect video directly from the source to the TV.

2) All of the receivers you list will pull the audio off of an HDMI connection. The Yamaha RX-V2600 also includes video upscaling to 720p or 1080i. You should be able to get a good price, because the newer RX-V2700 model has been out for a few months.

I would get the Yamaha if it were me. I have owned a Denon, two Onkyos, and two Yamahas. I think once you get into the higher lines of any of these series you are going to be pleased. I just prefer the Yamaha because it packs a wallop. I believe that all the receivers from $850 and up use the same principle amplfier unless you get the RX-Z9 which is quite a price jump.:D The only differences between each receiver may be the preamp section, inputs, and other pre/pro functions.

I currently have the following:

Sony 50" LCD

Klipsch RC-25 (center channel)

Klipsch RF-15 (fronts)

Klipsch RW8 (subwoofer)

I'm looking for the Klipsch RS-25 (surround) to complete my matched speaker system.

Based on my system, would you recommend one of the receivers that I mentioned OR a different one?

thanks

All receivers will work equally well. The Denon has a less friendly user interface and a poor manual. The Onkyo is probably the most user friendly. Please remember that the receiver is a tiny part (if any) of the sound quality so it's no big deal. Make a big deal, a really big deal about room acoustics and room treatments, that's where the magic is to be found.

What about the Onkyo TX-SR604? I was looking at that receiver earlier.

The speaker you've chosen in your system are very efficient and most decent amp/avr would do. If I was you (and I'm not) go with your first instinct and do like Nick mentioned. All the bells and whistles are IMO overrated:).

The Onkyo TX-SR604 does have HDMI.
The Onkyo 604 has a good amount of features and Onkyo has a good reputation for being user friendly, the two Onkyos I have owned have been easy to use.

Yes they are overkill and I think the TX-SR604 would be a great choice.

That's great, if the TX-SR604 has plenty of power for the speaker system.

The Klipsch speakers have a 96db sensitivity rating. Your clock radio could just about drive them ;) The SR604 will handle them with ease.

As far as the HDMI goes, will I have to run separate cables to the TV for the audio?

I run the two stereo outs from the cable box directly to the TV audio in. That way I can don't have to fire up the whole system just to watch regular TV.

So I will be able to get full surround sound from the HDMI cable?
