Need advice on speaker set for a very small space.

The room is about 13 by 11 foot with 8 foot ceilings but its a bedroom so there is a bed on one side. The actual area with the tv and where you will be sitting is only about 7 by 11 foot. I could really use some recommendations on some small (Obviously) bookself speakers or a speaker set. Being such a small area 7.1 would be over kill so I would assume 5.1 would be what I am after.

I was considering the Infinity TSS1100 paired with the HK AVR335 or the Onkyo HTS770 HTIB but would like your guys advice on something that would sound a little better. This will be used for movies music and games. Everything. I get discount prices on Infinity/Polk/Onkyo so outside of those brands I am looking to spend around $500-600 for the speakers. Since I get a good discount I will be going with a Harman Kardon reciever for sure though.

With such a very small area I do not want to over do it. I was going to go with a set of the Polk RTi8 speakers and the rest of the RTi series surround but thats just insane for a space that small and Im concerned that it might sound worse than a smaller system in this case.

Thanks to anyone that read this entire thing and is willing to help me out!

Just to help a little more I say It will be 30% music and 70% game/movie surround. Music will be anything except rap/country.

Buy 5 of the Athenas?

I saw the Micra 6 system but this looks to be better.

the price is for a complete set of five. you might get funny looks from people if you have 25 speakers in your room... :D

I think the system listed has better low and mid performance than the micra 6 does. It's one heck of a value, especially when you add the sub.

match up a set of these:

and one of these:

and you'll have some very good small sound that won't hurt the pocketbook either. :)
Damn, Lep, that's some of the best advice I've seen since I've been a member. Killer deal, especially for a bedroom (or dorm room). Nice sub for the price, too. Lep, you should charge a commission for that piece of advice. Zach, jump on it. Lep knows what he's talking about. The RTi's are great, but probably too large for the area you are considering. They work better on stands as opposed to wall mounting.

everything but....

I would not get that velo sub. Its not worth the money, id get an engery take 5 subwoofer (E:XL-S8). Its 400watts peak, 100 rms, and goes stronge into the high 20's. You can find one of those around for like 200 ish CAD. I got one, and it out shines my friends paradigm PDR 8.

I can't figure out how to attach a picture, but if you look up take 5, you will find it.

Thanks Lep. I think I am going to go with the Athenas. Since I cant locate or find a way to hear them do you think the sound would be better than the Infinity TSS1100?

Secondly do you think the HK AVR135 is enough to power these athenas?

I don't hear much about the Infinity HTIB's. I'm personally not fond of cube systems in general, but there are a number of smaller bookshelf systems that will probably get you better quality for that kind of money. You might be better off with one of these sets:

http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=speakers&product=61.1

or

http://www.axiomaudio.com/epicmidi_125main.html

or one of the Mordaunt-Short or Canton packages available from www.accessories4less.com.

If you add a decent sub to the MS 300 package, it would still be less than the Infinity package and give alot more solid sound. The Canton LE 125 package looks like a pretty sweet set-up as well for the same money. That site doesn't link well to specific packages, so you'll have to poke around a little but check them out.

You're also getting into some areas where you can find great speakers from retail-only companies. I'm not familiar with companies like PSB or Monitor Audio, but maybe we can get some posts from the guys who are. :)

Ya The only reason I was thinking about the Infinity TSS1100 was because I can get it for $440.

Since I only have $500 to spend on the speakers I think im going with the Athenas you posted. Still debating though.
