Need advice on odd room layout (with pic!)

Ok, I have a strange living room layout. I currently have no receiver/speakers, and I'm not sure what the best way would be to get a halfway decent surround sound system set up. With everything being kind of asymmetrical and off-center, I'm finding it difficult to imagine how I could possibly set up speakers in a way that would create a decent environment and not look like a mess. Anyone have any ideas? I'm open to pretty much anything, including sound projectors or wireless setups if they would be useful in my case.

I'm not trying to create the ultimate sound experience here. My wife finally got tired of just having the TV speaker, so I got the green light to get a new setup. I've got a budget of around $2K for speakers and receiver, so I just want to do what I can to get some better sound.

I made a rough diagram of the room to help visualize my layout. The room has laminate flooring, and an 8-foot ceiling. If there's any info that I left out that would be helpful, just let me know. Thanks!

Are you looking for HT in a box solution or separates?

Also, is the placement of the TV non-negotiable?

I don't really see other options for this room, but I'm open to suggestions about TV placement. Maybe there's something I didn't think of.

just an idea:
how about rotating your sectional couch 90degrees counter-clockwise, so short seating section faces fireplace and long faces bar.
put you dlp tv in corner b'ween living room and kitchen (straight)
about speakers:
you can try highly regarded SVS 5.1 SBS-01 System with PB12-NSD sub for $1200 and add refub Marantz or Onkyo AVR from Accessories for less.

about speakers:

Well, I'd have 2 problems with that setup I think. First would be that you couldn't see the TV from the kitchen/breakfast area. Second is that the TV on it's stand would be about 10" taller than the kitchen bar, so that would look pretty weird too I think. It would also end up sharing a circuit with the kitchen rather than the practically unused one on the wall that it is currently on.

Just checked out the review of these. They look pretty good. As I'm a complete noob to speaker installation, I'd have to figure out how to run the lines for these in this room. Crossing the entryway and the hallways on the fireplace side looks particularly tricky to me. Not sure how I'd manage it without running through the attic, which is stuffed full of blown insulation.

In m opinion, you may move the TV (I am assuming it has a stand) further to its left with the screen angled towards the couch. Sorta like the third side to a triangle, with your corner forming the other two.

You may place the left speaker at your current TV position and the right speaker to the right hand side of your fireplace. The center goes under the TV, the two (three maybe) surrounds, one goes behind your seating spot and the other on the left edge of you sofa.

Sub-woofer can share the space with your left channel speaker.

As for the speakers, SVS in one great option, you may also consider, Axiom series.

I have them and absolutely love them!

This coupled with Onkyo SR-807 will future proof you for sometime and will provide an HT experience you will love.

Thanks for the advice. I'm reading up on the Axioms now as well. I'm still not sure exactly how I'll run the wires across the entryway area, but I'm looking for some howtos on that sort of stuff. Never done it before.
