Hi guys I'm new here and just bought a set of ref 1's and UFW10's from AV123. I have a B&K Ref 50 pre/processor plus a three channel Odyssey and a two chanel Odyssey amp. I have been using a mix of MIT and Transparent with the MIT's working better with my system than the Transparent cables and can really hear the difference in sound stage and imaging through my B&W 802 fronts. My question is would a sonic wave sub cable sound decent. The construction looks great for the price! I know I've been getting screwed by Transparent and the MIT's are still expensive even though I buy them from "The Cable Nerd" but they do really tweak the sound. I have done blinded tests with my wife and she picks the MIT's every time even over some other expensive cables. Do cables really matter in a sub? The last inexpensice cables I bought came from Cobalt and they went back after I had given them sufficient break in time and my wife, brother, sister in-law and two friends participated in a double blind test and we all picked the MIT again!! Are cheap cables just that or are some better than others?? Remember this is just for sub cables....

I have a Sonic Wave sub cable and I know for a fact it would sound perfectly transparent in your system.

If you truly heard such a distinct difference in those other cables, one of them was acting like an EQ. (i.e. rolling off the highs) That's not unheard of with Audiophile cables in order to get people to hear come kind of difference, though its actually degrading the sound.

I know tha some high end cables chagne sound

but the MIT's seem to work best in my system. The bass is tihghter and the highs less sybilant. My 802's are very, very revealing to say the least and evry little tweak is audible. When I compared the MIT's to Monster 1000 the difference was huge. I had loose muddy bass with the Monster's and harsh highs but with the MIT's everthing was smoother and I could feel everything open up. I'm guessing with the silver tinned copper wires in the Sonicwave cable they will sound far superior to Monster 1000....

I seriously doubt that your cables were affecting your sound that much. While it's very possible for a poorly designed cable to act as a tone control (IE rolling off treble), there isn't any way for it to affect the sound in a way such as that "muddy bass" you described. This kind of sound is a result of room acoustics interacting with your speakers or an amplifier being driven too hard.

No the difference was very clear....

The test was set up in two chanel using right and left only with the pre pro in mono. The cheap cable was on one chanel and the other on the other chanel. Just to be sure everthing was in balance we would use a Y cable on the cd player plus mono on the pre. We even switched right and left speakers back and forth and the amp inputs from right to left & still the MIT's were picked each time. I listen to very revealing music and also have very revealing speakers plus very well built amps. We have also done this test with my MIT Shotgun speaker wire and it wins every time and i've auditioned over 15 different sets of speaker cables looking for the right fit for my system. My friends are not audiophiles so that is how I know the cables do something. Hell my wife can now discern between MIT Terminator 3 interconnects and the Shotgun series.. How else could I justify 300+ smaks on interconnects. Now I will say that on my basement system a Denon AVR 3805 I have a much harder time telling cables apart.. As for power input supply cables (120v) neither my wife or I could hear a difference at all! That $400.00 cable went back real quickly!!!

Post the measurments of each cable, maybe the MIT cables were through the roof so it changed the sound causing you to confuse a change in sound with sound quality.

I won't weigh in on the audibility of cables - in that regard I'll remain agnostic. However, I can say with complete certainty that trying the SonicWave cable won't cost you anything more than shipping. If you don't like it, send it back. We have a 30 day "No Questions Asked" return policy. Give it a try and let us know what you think - Impact Acoustics is a company that really is interested in what it's customers have to say. We're also critical listeners with some of us listening almost exclusively to tubes and vinyl, despite the constant ribbing of the analog-deprived (or is it digital depraved?) younger generation!

I have to give you credit for going through so much trouble to verify a sound difference. Most people sit down and listen and then claim a difference. You tried to control bias as much as possible in your situation and even repeated the experiment multiple times. While I don't have the money to buy such cables, nor a real interest in them, I am really impressed that you did that much testing. I just wish more people would at least try to justify their purchases of esoteric stuff with something besides "It sounded good".
