Hello,

I have two Soundfield dbx SF-50 speakers and two dbx SF-2500's that need some minor repair. The foam reflex's are crumbling. The speakers themselves are in great condition and sounded awesome before this minor problem. Can anyone tell me where I can have them re-worked without losing the sound quality. I am in the Chicago area and would like to stay local if possible.

Thanks,
Kuleaze

I know its not local, but speakerrepair.com (orange county speaker) in my opinion does a good job. I've gone both ways with them, bought:cool: the parts and did it myself, and sent the drivers to them. They did excellent work and were reasonably priced...

Thanks for the help. Sending these heavy a** speakers out to cail would cost me an arm and a leg. I really need to find something local, but more importantly, I need to know if there is a certain way I should recone these. I don't want to take them to just anyone. I guess what I am trying to say is, I don't want to put rusted out rims on a porche. You know what I mean? I just want to make sure I preserve I the integrity of the speakers buy repairing them right.

Dont just recone them have them totally rebuilt from the basket up,new voice coils & the whole shebang,it dont cost that much more than a recone & what you get is a brand new speaker.

I use Michigan Sound Reinforcement exclusively, they have rebuilt all the woofers in my JBL L-250's,rebuilt all 4 woofers & both mids in my Mcintosh XRT 22'S,rebuilt both woofers & both tweeters in my Mcintosh XL1'S,rebuilt both woofers in my Klipsch Horns, rebuilt the Manta Ray horns in my Altec 14's that are on permanent loan to my brother:rolleyes:.,thats just off the top of my head,if i tthought about im sure i could think of atleast 10 more rebuilds they have done for me over the last 20 years.

These guys are top flight & when they get done with a rebuild your good to go for another 30 years,a total rebuild on a 12" woofer with dual voice coil is around 60$,with a pleated surround about $60 & with a regular surround & single voice coil about $40.

Shipping would not be that bad from Chigao to Michigan, turn around time is usually about 1 week,if your interested let me know & i'll post their number.

In Chicago, call the guys at Saturday Audio (www.saturdayaudio.com), they are a very honest bunch of people with good business ethics. If they don't have the capabilities they will steer you in the right direction. They are open today.

Hi Kuleaze,
If you send your speakers out to re-foam the surrounds, you only have to ship the drivers only. The drivers can be packed face to face, with zip ties holding them to each other.

Here is a link to a link http://classicloudspeakerservices.com/ I've used him before.
He is the owner, Carl Richard; very good work, and fast.
