I just wanted to know if the following would be a good purchase on a budget of course:

Energy c-series

Floor standing: c-300
http://www.energy-speakers.com/v2/products/product-page.php?id=292

Center: c-c100
http://www.energy-speakers.com/v2/products/product-page.php?id=296

Surround: c-200
http://www.energy-speakers.com/v2/products/product-page.php?id=293

If anyone knows if these are any good and worth the money. There on special at a local store here. As far as a receiver I have a pioneer 1016. Thanks.

Energy makes a decent speaker. Another Canadian company that makes good use of their research facility. I have a pair of Energy RC-10s that I recently purchased (clearance priced at www.audioadvisor.com) and I'm quite impressed with them. I've heard the C-Series not too long ago and thought they sounded really good compared to other speakers in their price rance. Of course they have to sound good to you. Have you had a chance to listen to them?

Yep Future shop has a sale on Energy speakers. The speakers you have listed are all on sale. As for the surrounds look at the c-r100 and save even more. IMO the energy C's are decent speakers and if your buying from FS than give them an audition before you buy!!

the problem is, the Future Shop stores close to my house, dont have any left in stock (for sale) and when I go to the other ones that have them, I am not sure if they will have them available for audition, i might pass by tonight and see if they still have the demos left on the floor for audition before making the extra trip. I was thinking of purchasing them online with an in-store pickup.
forgot to mention, they will be used mostly for movies

The current SALE prices at FS aren't great! I've seen the c300's & c500's on sale for half price or less. Don't rush out just yet? Find a place with stock and try to audition them first. Then wait for them to go on sale again and order them online.:)

What is the price for each? That would help to determine whether or not it is a good deal.

C-300 is going for 500 (100$ off)
c-c100 is going for 269 (30$ off)
c-200 is going for 350 (50$ off)

Total of $180 off

I passed by the store close to my house, they didn't have the c-300, couldn't audition the whole kit either, they didn't have the c-200's connected. Does anyone have these? I might wait then.

I think I'm gonna aim for either psb, kef, paradigm, energy, mirage, omage or polk audio.

Does anybody know if future shop bargains their prices at all?

I wouldn't. Pick up a complete 5.1 system from SVS, AV123, or Ascends Acoustics. Your money is better spent there.

I would agree that those 3 ID are great choices. However the OP appears to live in Canada making the ID a bit more costly. Here is why? The complete 5.1 svs system with the pb 10 retails for $1249.00 here in Canada. Plus shipping(unless your live locally for pick up) + taxes.

HT only or music as well?

What are your music tastes?

Those prices aren't too much of a deal. You should wait a little more and they will get even cheaper cuz Energy is rehauling its lines. I got the RC line at a great discount (1000$ off a 2500$ speaker pair) and I don't regret it a bit. Better speakers I've ever had.

IMO, you should really get the C-500 instead of the C-300.

billy p is right i havent seen any of those three brands here in Montreal (Canada).

mouettus: HT (95%) Music (5%)
Yeah I looked at it afterwards and it doesnt look much like a deal. But FS doesnt have deals often, they come once in awhile.
I would love to get the c-500, its a bit out of my price range though, I think right now its like $200 off, if it goes lower ill take them.

Oh you live in montreal?! I could sell you my Polks. 5.1 system: Rti8, Cs3, Fxi3, Velodyne DPS10B, Yamaha receiver, Toshiba DVD player and all the wires. They're in flawless condition. PM me for more details. I live in gatineau (approx 1:45-2:00 from mtl). They work very well for HT and for music (depends of your tastes).

I checked out the web sites, the svs system has a local dealer here in Canada, so there wouldn't be any brokerage or duty costs.

However, I do like the av123 x series. Its a bit more expensive, but it looks like they will be shipped from the US, which can be a problem. I might give them a call to find out.

Do you guys know how to calculate the W (power handling)?
the x series (av123)
center shows: 90.5 dB (@ 1 watt / 1 meter)
Fronts: 87 dB (@ 1 watt / 1 meter) or 90.5 dB (@ 1 watt / 1 meter)
and bookshelf: 87 dB (@ 1 watt / 1 meter)

Lastly is there a huge difference between these two models? is one greatly superior?

one more question, hopefully my last in this post

Does this system go together? I've ready that the front 3 speakers 2 fronts + the center should be the same brand and series. However, I noticed on crutchfield that the prices on the polk audio's are pretty decent.

Front = RtiA5 $450
Center = they sell the csi a6 at $450
but I would probably need to buy a cheaper one like the csiA4 for 350$ (and maybe wait for it to go on special)
Surrounds = Rti A1 $330

I don't need a sub since I already have one. This is a bit over my bdget, but for what Im getting, its pretty good.

But what I am concerned about is this is a good setup with all the different model types.

Svs has a Canadian retailer in Canada. The duty and brookerage fees are included in the price. My issue with them is why do they charge duty if the products are made in the USA? If you could buy direct from SVS on B-stock or discounted items it would be cheaper than dealing with sonicboom and since our dollar is on par they haven't adjusted their prices to indicate that!!

Future Shop will do better than those prices. Get them to list out everything that you want and then tell them that you want them cheaper. They're only one step better than used car salesmen... they always drop the price through the floor to keep you from walking away. They were recently selling RC30's for $700/pair so they'll certainly sell the C300's for less than $500. A&B Sound was firesaling them for $400/pair around Xmastime. Don't be afraid to argue and fight with them about it - you'll only get it you work for it ;)

+1

I've worked there. Go somewhere else and get prices. Then make a reasonable offer and they won't be able to resist. Speakers have a huge markup so don't be afraid. That's what they want to sell. They are not getting profit (maybe 2-3%) on tvs and none on laptops so they have to make money somewhere

Maybe this needs a new thread title,

I found the following deal on Future shop, can this mix together?

Fronts: rti8's 400$ for the pair
center: csia4 350$ (not on special) will wait to buy these later maybe
Surrounds: rtia1 $330 crutchfield

are the back bookshelf's too powerful?
can this be mixed together like this?

Does it have to be Energy? Have you visited local Audio shops in the area other than the big box stores like Future Shop or Best Buy? Energy are a good brand but there are many other great Canadian manufacturers such as PSB, Paradigm, Athena .. A couple of people here have bought Sinclair as well and were more than happy. Just trying to broaden your outlook and let you know that there are other alternatives out there other than ID companies. Speaking of which, I did forget to mention Axiom which is a Canadian ID company.
