Need advice on adding a pre-amp for 6.1

Hi all, another newbie here. I am really enjoying this site, lots of great information.

Anyway, I have a Yammi RX-V1000 5.1 receiver. You can make the receiver 6.1 by adding an external power amp for the rear center (see image of rear panel)

My question is, what is the best way to achieve this? For example, what type of amp, and setup configuration.

I have the RX-V1400 (7.1) and have six amps driving all speakers. I found Alesis RA-150 to be very nice and inexpensive. You do not need to spend a lot for an amp, and you most likely do not require high wattage. Search around, check ebay et al. Almost any amp will do (steer clear of PA amps though).

Thanks for the info. My confusion now is how to connect the two? There is a single RCA out of the Yammi. Do you just use a Y cable?

I also read its a good idea to have the power of the external amp match the wattage of the Yammi?

Wouldn't you need a Mono Block amp? If you use a two channel amp, wouldn't you need two rear centers? Or are you just using one channel off the amp to the rear?

Alternatively, if I use a two channel amp could I power both the front and rear center. Thus using both channels?

Any input would be appreciated.

Space, the final frontier...

God bless you if you can conveniently locate the center surround so it actually adds to the overall sound. I'm dong exactly the opposite. I'm only using 5 channels out of the 6 my unit is capable of.

Dunno your exact model (they change every few months anyway) but it sounds like it has 5 power amps built in and allows expansion to a 6 channel system by adding ONE more single channel (mono) to give you that 6th channel. Is that correct?

If so, then all you need is a monoblock (power) amp. Either that or you can use one channel of a stereo amp and leave the other idle. This would feed that center/surround channel.

Bridging may be an option if whatever amp you choose allows it, but it may be overkill.
