Hi, New to the site and was wondering about a speaker system for my flat screen. Here is what I have and what I am looking for. I am currently finishing my basement and plan to dump alot of cash into a home theater down there. In the mean time I have a Vizio 42" LCD upstairs and have no sound other than the TV. I am looking at buying a PS3 or other Blu Ray player so I only would like a simple set up like a Bose 3-2-1. That being said I have been told that with Bose you are paying for the name and can get comprable systems for about half the price. I am looking for something with good sound in a simple package so I don't have to string wires all the way around my living room. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and Great Site.

As a former 3-2-1 owner, I can tell you to save your money and forget that option. They sound terrible and have no discernable surround effect. The Yamaha sound projectors have gotten good reviews here as a simple solution that provides real surround effects. I haven't tried them out myself, but the reviews have been favorable.

How much do you want to spend? the PS3 is a good BluRay player and has a nice HDMI interface as does the Vizio. A fialry inexpensive solution that will sound good is two Cambridge Audio S30 speakers ($250) and a Yamaha RX-V363 ($230) and your choice of PS3 or other Blu Ray DVD ($400-$500).

Connect PS3 or DVD to RX-V363 AVR via hDMI cable
Connect satelite or cable to RX-V363 AVR via HDMI cable
Connect RX-V363 to Vizio LCD TV via HDMI cable
Connect two front Cambridge Audio speakers to RX-363 AVR
If you want subwoofer get DVD or Hsu ($400- $600) and connect via RCA cable to RX-363 AVR

Simple clean , nice sound.

Again if you budget is more there are many other options :D A person can spent as much as they want!

HT options

With a little research on this site, you should be able to put together a quality 2.1 system. If you want to take full advantage of BluRay then you will need a receiver with HDMI audio precessing in the $400 price range.

Add a nice pair of bookshelf speakers ($3-400) and a small sub ($200) for a great 2.1 system with a comparable price to the Bose setup. A Harmany universal remote ($100) will make your system easier to use and control than the Bose setup.

If you have a small, square room, then the Yamaha YSP is a good option for simulated surround sound.

If you really want a compact system, check out the Denon S-102 or 302 that have a similar layout to the Bose system.
