Need advice : HK AVR220 puts out too much heat

I just purchased a media center with enclosed cabinets. After a short while I opened the door and there was way too much heat in there. The receiver is about 5 years old now. My options are :
1) Drill a 2" hole in the back and mount a fan - will that be enough?
2) leave the door open all the time - that sucks
3) buy a new receiver - however will I find one that won't mind being enclosed that is
of quality?

Any advice you guys could give me would be great.
Thank You.

A 2" fan is not very large and won't move enough air unless it is rotating very fast or the space is very small. It also won't work efficiently unless there is another exhaust hole for air to escape. I don't think you will find a different reciever that is designed for poor circulation in a hot environment. If you can get a somewhat larger fan connected and working, I would suggest either putting the fan on the side blowing into the center and an exhaust hole on the back, or the fan blowing out the back with an intake hole on the side. You just want the air going in to be from a cool area(probably the front or either side) for obvious reasons.

Well I should explain better what I was thinking, and excuse my ignorance on the matter :) What if I mounted the fan on that 2" hole to blow out from the inside? Or would that still not do the trick? Perhaps that is what you are suggesting. I have a hole I cut out yesterday in the back so I could run speaker wires and such through there. The channel way they gave me to run cables to the center and out the back was way to narrow. If I mounted a fan on the back to blow out it would probably just pull that hot air back in. I could do it out the side I just hate to cut a hole there. ugh.

If you have a fan blowing air out the back you should be fine as long as there is a place for air to come in. My guess is that the front where it opens isn't sealed so if you put a fan in the back blowing outwards might work fine.
