Need advice for the best sound

Hi friends.

Am trying to get "high res" music from Qobuz/Tidal on my iPhone (still deciding between the 2) to my audio system.

Specifically, to my Marantz 7702MkII pre, which is connected to a Sunfire Cinema Grand Signature 400 amp and a set of Wharfedale Opus 3 speakers.

Doesn't have to be wireless. In fact, last night I hooked up my iPhone 8 directly to the Marantz using a simple lightning to USB cable and the Marantz's iPod/USB input. And it sounded...OK.

But not sure if that's using the iPhone's DAC, or the Mrantz's DAC, or if the signal received was 24/192, which is what the source allegedly is (from Qobuz).

That would be using your Marantz' dac if you connect it digitally like that. I wouldn't expect miracles from hi-res files. I stream content via wifi/dlna to my avr but don't use those services, I use spotify and android and know squat about things applish except that you could also perhaps try Airplay instead of the wired connection.

Thank you lovinthehd! I will try Airplay, though it maxes out at 16/44. And Bluetooth as well.

Maybe I need an external DAC or a streaming device...

I'd think about it more as do you really hear a difference with a hi-res file? Might try a self-test of that before you go shopping....
