Need advice for subwoofer selection

I am looking to add a subwoofer to my bedroom (17 ft x 11 ft).

I live in Asia which limits my choices but I am looking at the following.

Please help me choose.

1) SVS PB-10NSD - total will be over $1,000 due to shipping/tax expenses
2) Martin Logan Dynamo 700 ($875)
3) Paradigm Ultracube 10 ($1031)

I am leaning towards the SVS but I will have to import it which is quite a hassle and costly. I would also like to know if it would be overkill for my room.

As it would be quite costly to bring it in, I would take one of the other two models if they compare favorably.

Please advise.

svs hands down. May be overkill but it is better then the other two selections for sure.

Without a doubt the pb10...but that's an exorbitant amount of money for that sub that I am not willing to pay.

Yes, prices are so friggin high for decent models no matter if I import directly or buy locally :(
So as you say... even the SVS PB10 might not be worth it at that cost right?

I have cheaper choices available locally but It's so difficult to choose since good & honest reviews are scarce. Most forums will of course recommend SVS, Outlaw, HSU etc. Of course, the purchase price for me will be crazy here so I am not sure if I should pull the trigger.

These are locally available choices.

Paradigm : PDR-12 - $559
AE : AEGIS NEO-SUB - $609
KLIPSCH : RW-10d - $637
Paradigm : DSP-3100 - $680
ENERGY : S10.2 - $715
KLIPSCH : RW-12 - $778
Paradigm : DSP-3200 - $870
AAD : SD-10 - $456

There's also Velodyne / B&W but these will cost an arm+leg+liver.

Even knowing the budget, you might opt for the pb12 with your room just for re-assurance. The 10 will hit well but the 12 will add a couple of dbs. The ML will also due well in a music setting above 30hz into 100hz. Another option might DYI for about 25% less and about 40% more in practical output

Rythmik

Have you considered Rythmik Audio? They also ship from Taiwan, so they might offer better value than the SVS. I haven't heard one myself, but from what I've read -- the Rythmik F12 promises to be a much better sub than the ones you listed.

Those other prices are more indicitive of what's available here. If your dead set on getting the SVS take Bandphan's advice regarding the lagrer unit or go entirely in another direction? If the Rythmik will ship to your door for about the same cost, go for it, but if your going to have to overpay, do it once and do it right...IMO.

Regards & good luck, Bill....:)

Thank you everyone for the good advice.
Sucks to be in this part of the world. "Ear porn tax" is crazy.
I'm looking into the Rythmik which they've said can be shipped here.
It looks like a better deal for me than importing SVS from US.

Just outta curiosity which Rythmik design are you considering? Also, I thought Svs had oversea retailers...to help reduce some cost.

I think the F12. Not cheap but it looks better spec-wise than SVS and as mentioned, might as well do it right if going to be paying high.

Also, SVS do have overseas distributors in Singapore/Taiwan/Malaysia/SEA. But their markup is high and it would be like having to pay for shipping and duty twice.
