Let me start off by saying that I am a complete newcomer to all of this, but I'm very excited about putting together my first higher end system. I've been listening to music and my games from my cheap $50 speakers and my motherboard's sound card along with TV from my TV's built in speakers. So, it's time to do this right!
It's a home office setup where I spend a good 10 to 12 hours a day as I work from home. The office is a 15' x 15' carpeted room. I have a TV hooked up to an HD DVR that I watch recorded shows from (some movies some TV shows). I have a high end PC that I use for work, games and listening to music and podcasts. So, I'll have two sources of audio - PC or TV as I understand it.
The system I have planned so far is a 2.1 system to start and then perhaps an upgrade to a 5.1 system.
I am planning on getting two Usher S-520s, a Prelude card for the PC, a nice sub for around $1,000 and a nice amp/receiver, which is where I could use some advice.
I would like to get the best solution for me with a budget of around $1,000 for the amp/receiver (still not sure which word is the right one for what I'm looking for).
I have spoken to a couple of dealers, but the experience hasn't been a good one. I feel like they're trying to sell me whatever they need to sell as opposed to what I need.
If you guys were in my situation, what would you recommend?
Let me know if there's anything else you need to know.
Thanks so much for any help you can give! I am excited to make a decision and get the new system in place!
