Hi. I am newbie, and i don't have anything now. I like to build a music and movie system in my open living room ( 15'x20') connect to kitchen.
I have limited budget and i want to upgrade when i have more money.
So, i will start from 2.0 system with 1 avr and 2 speakers for music first. Add subwoofer and 2 used rear speakers later if i can see any good deal.
The speakers i will go with 2 Klipsch rp260f. The avr i may go with denon 5.1 ( i don't think i wil go 7.1 )
There is a deal in Londondrug, where i live
https://www.londondrugs.com/denon-5.2-ch-4k-uhd-a/v-receiver-with-bluetooth---black---avrs530bt/L9644097.html
I don't know that is a good one or trash :(

Please help me with the suitable avr. And a reasonable subwoofer for later. I live in canada, so ther price is very high compared with us.
I saw some pro here mentioned about the denon x3300 but it costs $1140 Can before tax on amazon. Way too much.

Thanks for reading.

That's pretty much the bottom of the Denon line, and doesn't have all the features of other Denons further up the food chain....it will work, tho.

Hi Eric,

Welcome to the Forum. Most of the people here like Denon Receivers in addition to Marantz, Yamaha, and few who like Sony. If you could push up a level or two on the Denon Receiver, you'd get more features for your money. The Denon AVR-S730H is only $100 more at Best Buy locally.

Or you may want to consider Gibby's Electronics in Ontario. They are the only Authorised "B" Stock Denon seller in Canada. They sell regular stock too. They typically offer free shipping and there is no provincial sales tax. They warrant the Receiver for a year.

The B Stock Denon AVR-S730H is only $20 more than the AVR-S530BT at London Drugs; and definitely a step up. If you can spend $399 they also have the B Stock AVR-S930H which is where I'd suggest you go.

I live in Metro Vancouver & I have a London Drugs a few blocks from my house. (I buy BluRay Concert disks from time to time there; as well as regular Drug Store stuff.) The reason I know about Gibby's is I've installed Atmos Speakers during our recent renovation, and now have an 11.2 set up but only a Denon AVR-S9O0W which is 7.2 and doesn't do Atmos. I've been holding off buying a B stock (or any) AVR-X6400H until I can find one locally, and hear an Atmos setup. (I wired the in Ceiling Speakers in when the Renovation was going on, and installed them after the new Ceiling went up. It was do it now, or never, sort of thing.)

In addition to the Denon AVR-S9O0W, I have an old 5.1 Denon AVR-1612 entry level receiver in my basement system, and a couple of 5.1 Sony Receivers (Sony STR- DN1050 in the Family Room & a Sony STR-DN860 elsewhere) as I'm a bit of a nut for Home Theater. I'm pleased with all of them.

You are doing the right thing by researching first before buying. A gradual approach where you add equipment as you can afford it is the right way to go. Check out Craigslist locally for used speakers when you are ready.

Good luck building your system.

I'm not in Canada and not really familiar with what's available so I'd follow Jim's lead...

Hi Jim,
Thank you for all good information. I finally end up with the denon x1400H with the deal at Visions for $499 (end in May 3). It looks good and have more function for the future upgrade. It also has HEOS and dobly asmot too.
I just need more real experience about that x1400H before i order it.

Hi Eric,

The Denon AVR-X1400H is a good unit and the review seem positive. That's a great price from Visions. The "B" Stock version is $100 less at Gibbys, but buying locally at a store where you touch it and test it out, does have some value. I bought a TV there a couple of times. They do have a 15 day satisfaction return policy, so if you get it home and don't like it after the initial "buzz" wears off, you can return it.

Typically I find their sales folks a bit lacking on technical knowledge, and bit pushy for the Sale. They will try to sell you the extended warranty which is usually a Big profit for them and of little benefit to you. I've heard it's hard to make claims against some of these 3rd party warranty providers. I have a Visa Credit Card which adds an extra year to the manufacturers warranty. A lot of Credit Cards offer this, so you might want to consider using one if you have it.

Some folks may worry the Denon AVR-X1400H is not loaded with power but if you stay with the Klipsch rp260f speakers you mentioned above (with their corresponding Center and Surround speakers later) you'll have more than enough power to damage your ears. So be carefull. Okay?

In my opinion, I'd add a good Sub for your next purchase. Even though I own 3 Klipsch Subs, my research is, and most here would agree, you can do far better elsewhere for less money. So when you get to that stage, post again.

I hope you really enjoy your purchases. ;)

Hi Eric and welcome to AH :).

You didn't mention a center channel speaker. It, along with the front left and right speakers, are much more important than rear speakers. In movies and TV, the center speaker handles most of the dialog. Get a center speaker similar in performance to your front left and right speakers. You may not need it or want it for music, but for 5 channel video, a good center speaker is quite important. In contrast, you can spend much less for rear channel speakers and not affect the overall sound quality.

Thank Jim and Swerd.
Amazon had the same deal $499 for x1400h too. I think that is the cheapest dobly denon for now.
My next purchase will be the subwoofer, even klipsch or hsu. I don't know which one good but i think it will spend over $500 for a good sub, or maybe a used one.
Oh, and for the center, i will look at klipsch to match the front set. Looks so nice.
Now it time to spend money :)
Thank for all advice.

Canada isn't as sub-buying friendly as the US. Did you inquire with Hsu as to shipping to Canada? How it affects warranty? Believe SVS has distribution in Canada, tho. Klipsch subs, maybe the R-112SW or R-115SW at a good discount, but mostly Klipsch isn't a go-to company for subs nor would there be an advantage in brand matching for your speakers particularly (except they can match your speakers aesthetically).

If SVS ships to Canada the PB2000 might be one to consider... Good luck! :)

Thank lovinthehd and snakeeyes.
I maybe order from amazon us and ship to canada. I feel like its too hard to enjoy music in canada. Maybe once day, i will go to us in black Friday and take all of them. :)
Do you have any good suggestions for the subwoofer at this time? Just ok, not the best.

I would hesitate to recommend 10 inch subs for that space. 12in subs are where I would try to be at. Check out the subwoofer section threads. Many have made due with Dayton 1200 subs if their budget is tiny. Just realize there is a huge difference to something like that vs HSU or Rythmik or SVS. Good luck! :)
