Hey guys - I would really appreciate your help. I have a HK 635 but was considering upgrading to Denon 2808. Is Denon 2808 that better than 635? I am using definitive Tech mythos one as fronts and three as a center channel.
Thank you guys

The 2808 is much better without a doubt in terms of features. For sound quality, I doubt you will hear a difference in controlled A/B listening session. Some people may tell you the 635, being HK will do better in music listening and that it has a warmer kind of sound. This myth probably got started due to the "high current" thing that they tend to emphasize a little more in their specs than others. It will be up to you to decide whether that is true, myth, or Placebo effect. I (and friends) have spent enough time doing A/B listening and find those claims are just claims, not verifiable facts.

Don't get me wrong HK did make some great high end stuff in the past. They also do put relatively (P/S ratings vs amp ratings) larger power supplies in their recent AV receivers. I just wanted to make the point that claims about their warmer/better sound cannot stand up to any serious A/B listening tests.

The 2808 is going to have a smaller power supply but will be good enough for your current speakers. In future when you upgrade your speakers you can simply add an external amp via the 2808's preouts so there is no big deal.

I would go for the Denon. I had an HK a few years ago and when I upgraded to Denon it was like night and day as far as clean fat sound was concerned. The new Denon stuff is very well built and sounds great.:D
