Need a sub to fill 3,000 cubic feet on a budget of less than $500

That depends on a number of things. I have a much larger open space than that and one pair of BS22LRs by themselves powered by a small amp reach decent levels without issue and I sit about 12 ft from them. In terms of specifications, look for something with slightly higher sensitivity, and it will also depend on how much power you will be feeding them. I do think you could get away with just bookshelf speakers, but at the price of P363s or FS52s, you are probably going to spend the same amount for BS22s or P153/163s and stands.

Two more questions related to my space.

Do I need to be concerned about what specifications the floorstanding speakers have in a space this large?

If I went with the Outlaw LFM - 1 EX or the Rythmik LV12R could I get by with bookshelf speakers for my fronts or is the space to large? If I could get by with bookshelves what would be recommended in the range of $300-500 for the all three, L/C/R?

Thanks everyone
Oh, absolutely!

Keep in mind that speakers don't have to "fill" the room. They just have to reach your sitting distance. That's why we can use speakers OUTDOOR.

The subs are more dependent on room size, not just sitting distance.
