Need a Rythmik to go with my KEF's, but which one?

I currently run a pair of KEF Q900’s through a Marantz SR6005 receiver. My use consists of 75% music and 25% HT.

Please feel free to recommend what you think would best compliment the Q900's. I would perfer to get a Rythmik.

Room size is 23' x 12' x 8' ceiling height, but this room partially opens up to another room of the same size.

Budget would be under $1,500.00, but would perfer to not spend the entire budget.

Thanks,

The best way to answer this question is to go to the source. Call Ascend Acoustics and/or Rythmik directly and get their recommendations.

Your room is not large unless it's open to the rest of the house. As long as you do not listen at ear bleeding volume and you only want one sub you should be able to come in well under your $1500 max.

Good luck!:)

So essentially your cu. ft. size is 4416. That's considered a large room, so my vote goes to the Rythmik FV15HP or F15HP if you prefer sealed. Going the latter route may dictate dual 15's in order to pressurize the room properly, though; I can't be sure.

For 75% music, I'd probably go sealed, but it depends on how much output you are looking for too, as mentioned by Nuance.

Wow, So even one F15HP wouldn't me enough?

Outside of Rythmik, what else would you recommend?

That's hard to say. I have dual sealed 15" subwoofers, and while running one in my over 5000 cu. ft. area it was great for music but a little lacking for Home Theater. Adding the second one sealed the deal, and now I have much more headroom and a more enveloping experience. This isn't to say the same situation will apply to you, as your room and tastes are likely different.

I would call Rythmik since you're pretty keen on going with one of their products (great company, by the way); they'll know for sure if one sealed F15HP will be enough for that room size and your listening preferences.

Other great companies would be:
SVS, Epik, Outlaw, HSU, Elemental Designs, JL Audio, Funk Audio (Funkywaves) and Chase Home Theater.

I think one F15HP would be sufficient, but you may prefer ported for the extension. Properly placed you can get a very enveloping experience.

Doesn't an appropriately sized sealed subwoofer extend lower than a ported unit when coupled with room gain?

Not necessarily. Depends on the room, but in general, the authority of sealed subs down low is not as good as a low tuned vented. We tested Darien's kit built F12 in his place and it had output at 16Hz, but you couldn't really feel it. My former Tempest was tuned to 17.5hz and you could definitely feel the stuff below 20Hz. So you may get down to the teens, like my Empire does, but it won't have the same kind of rumble.

I contacted Rythmik, they recommened one F15.
Very cool. If funds allow for it, go with the HP version anyway, as you'll get more headroom output and bass rumbling fun. Enjoy!

Really? I always understood it that after the tuning point ported (and passive radiator) subwoofers fall off very fast, while sealed rolls off much slower. You're right, though: every room is different so that will be a large factor in how the subwoofers behave.
