Currently upgrading Cerwin Vega surround system. Right now I am running polk monitor 50's for the fronts. Center is still CV as is the surrounds. I am going to replace the sub first. Unless there is some different opinions. My price range is $200-$350 for the sub. I want the best bang for the U.S. dollar. An links and current good deals would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would say that getting a mathching center would be the first way to go. I believe that Vanns.com has the center that matches the monitors on sale for around $130. With the money left over of your $350 budget you could pick up a Bic H-100 which is a great bang for the buck subwoofer.

So, I decided to take everyone's advice and get a new center channel to go with my monitor 50's. Looking at the polk cs 1. It seems to be the one to match my floorstanders. I would like to get a sub with my purchase, so I can get them all at once. What would be a good sub choice for around $300.

Don't rush the sub purchase just to get one. It makes sense to get the center channel first, but not at the expense of sacrificing the quality of the sub. If the budget can be increased a bit by waiting for a while, I think it's worthwhile waiting to get a better sub. But if you must have one right away, the ones listed here so far seem like decent choices.

If your budget for just the sub is $300 I would say it would be worth your while to take a look at the Elemental Design A2-250. At right at $300 and free shipping it would be at your budget. You can look at forums especially AVSforum there are many reviews on it.

how would these subs compare to the others suggested?
Infinity PS212
Klipsch KSW-12
Polk Audio PSW505
My room is med to large and I feel that I would need a 12in sub. It doesn't have to be the very best. Just a good solid feel that will be accurate.
I have looked at the STF-2 also. How would it compare to the ones l listed?
Thanks to everyone that has given me input on this. My new price cut off will be under $400. This site makes it very hard to stay within budget.

The subs you've listed can't compare with the previous subs listed or the STF-2.

So even though the STF-2 is a 10in, It would be louder and produce more sound than those 12's in a med to large room? I have never had the opprotunity to listen to any of the HSU line but am willing to trust your opinion and experience. All the people in my area still take pride in there cheap sony's from wal-mart. They think I'm crazy. Even though what I have now destroys anything they have.

For a subwoofer to perform it must have a good combination of all these things.

Excellent Designed Enclosure (Subwoofer design variations include Front-firing , and Down-firing, and the use of Ports or Passive Radiators.)
Quality Amp
Quality Driver
Crossover

Subwoofers should not sound "boomy", but deep, and tight.

howeD A2 - 300 Subwoofer would these 2 compare? The STF 2 or the
elemental design A2 - 300 Subwoofer.

Why would they discontinue the STF 3? If they still had this model, I would not be shopping. By now I would have been listening.lol

I just bought the SVS PB10 NSD (430$), it hasnt arrived yet, but i have heard nothing but good things about it. SVS seems to only make good stuff, and i plan on buying more from them in the future. I would say save up and get the SVS, its only 130$ more, and chances are it is going to out preform anything else in that price range. I have also heard good things about HSU, i took a look at their line up, but i decided to go with the SVS because i like their "style" more, also the specs on the SVS seem better than the HSU.
I will get back to you when i actually get the PB10, and give you my opinion.
