Need a little help with choosing speakers

Well, a couple weeks ago, I had a thread about recommendations on a sub, and I finally chose the ED a2-300. I have ordered it, and once I get enough cash, I want to go an upgrade my mid/high speakers.

I won't have the money for a couple months, and there will probably be a better speaker released in that time, so right now, I am not looking for specific models. I just need a base recommendation for what I should be looking for. I am expecting to get about $400 but that can change.

I listen to %35 music( Tecnho/Trance/Hardstyle and screamo )
PC gaming %30
Music Creation %15
movies %10
Youtube %10.

So, should i be looking for "Studio Monitors", because they have flat sound, which would be good for the music creation ( I am starting to get into that). Or get some hi-fi speakers that would be less Flat, bet sound better. I have already looked at some monitors, and they look really expensive (like 600 for a pair). Is that with all speakers?

Thanks

That depends on your application. Size of room, listening volume, listening distance, room treatments.

Room size: 13x12x8
Volume: IDK pretty loud sometimes
Distance: anywhere from 1-5 feet
Room treatments: What do you mean by this?

For active speakers, maybe check out a pair of Mackie MR5s or M Audio Studiophile BX5A's

Otherwise, If you do get passive speakers, it'd help to know what you've got for amplification. Behringer 2030ps are nice.

Don't know if I want active or passive. I've got a pioneer Vsx-518. I don't know if it is good enough or not. Also, I have an Auzentech prelude sound card. is there an advantage over one or the other?

The Pioneer connected to the sound card via digital should be fine for driving a pair of Behringer B2030P studio monitors (~$150/pr) and a $200 subwoofer would rock. Later you can add more 2030Ps if you want 5.1. The Behringers work really well up close or in small rooms.

That's what I'd get.

Thanks for the recommendations, but I would need a speaker that can gat lower than 100 HZ, because that's my sub's limit. Also, what are some god studio monitor brands?

I'll second this one. It's not the only good choice, but I believe it will be the best sound for the money.

I already have a subwoofer, so why would I buy another
When did we start talking about subwoofers? I thought we were talking about bookshelves (Behringer 2030P's)

Some answers to your (oddly random) question:
  • To replace your existing one with a better one.
  • To add to your existing one to reduce problems with standing waves and room interaction.
  • To add to your existing one along with a crossover to get full range stereo.
  • To better match the drapes.
  • To do your part as a consumer to keep subwoofer manufacturers in business.
  • As a gift for your neighbor.
  • Because the dog told you to.

You agreed with spending half of speakers, and half on a sub, although i already have an ED A2-300.

I should have been more clear. I second the statements regarding the performance of a 2030P, particularly as a near-field monitor.

studio monitors

I think u will like home speakers better than studio monitors. Monitors are made for recording and listening to recordings at close distances like less than 5 feet. Outside 5 feet or so they will start to sound verry hollow and distant. Home speakers are designed for just that, home theater and MUSIC. With your music taste and budget, you may want to listen to Cerwin Vega or MTX. They require less amplifiication to get more punch. And both of those speakers are fairly cheap. I think you can also find some on Monitor Audio silver or bronze series. I also think u want floorstanding and not bookshelfs, unless the bookshelfs get down to the bass extensions u are after.
