Thanks for the great site, I have leart a lot from here...but I want something tailored to my needs...I just built a cinema room, where i could go relax, unwind, watch a great movie, some tv or just go and play a good game on the upcoming xbox 360 (15 days baby)...anyways I already have a decent HTIB (JVC, forget the model number, but 700W total, purchased 1 year and a half ago), although I like the sound, it could be better as the room is now enclosed, I would like to have a GOOD soundsystem...now what woudl you reccomend me, I would like to keep this as cheap as possible, money wise, but get the most out of my money...something around 700-900$ CDN would be about good...a 6.1 system would be very nice, but suggest me...here are some pics of the room, and my new 61" Samsung DLP (I just got her today :p )

Thank you for any and all help :D

BTW dont mind the mess, nor the decor, it will be all painted and furnished this weekend

Ok, 6 BIC DV62si's, all the way around ($330) with an acoustech HT100 sub ($200) and a pioneer 815 ($200). That fits into your Cad budget and will sound great in that room.

They have the DV64 and the DV84 (plus one other powered tower which I haven't heard). Both are good units, just a bit out of his price range. If he could afford a little more I'd replace 2 of the DV62si's with 2 of the DV62clr's.

Vitulla,

Congratulations on the purchase of the new Samsung. WOW a dedicated room for HT, how lucky is that. You could do a lot with that room.

You can find out about the products here. There are a ton of online retailers that sell them really cheap. You can get a pair of DV62si's for around 110-130.

.....Mac, I believe the best low-mids-up, comes from floor-standing 2-way's for fronts, that seem to have resolved highs projected, and same line bookshelves for rears/surrounds, with the mids best resolved projected, that are crisp in the voices, as the fronts are crisp in the highs....GREAT combo....makes for STRONG, WIDE front mains, that can give an amazing amount of realism transparency....trust the sub to make it ok being a 2-way main's regiment....if you feel you need, build some small cannons with me....you can have Home Depot make every cut on a big table saw, and pay them about 10-15 bucks to make the cuts....you will then need screws, an electric drill with both small wood-bits and screwdriver bits, Elmer's wood glue, silicon, and glossy black latex paint....here's the bad part....after buying the two 12 inch elements for about $300-$500, an active crossover for cutting both ends, and power, must be had.....

I agree, but his problem is budget, budget and most of all, budget.

Not only that, but DV-62 bookshelves, when placed properly, have response down into the 40s. So in essence, they're similar to many floorstanders for bass response.

.....I understand, Mac, just wanted him to be aware of possibilities here, using speakers that are actually considered inexpensive....and speakers should be our first consideration, imo.......

If you want an amazing upgrade for movies, XBOX 360, and music, save up for the Acoustech system. I agree with Brian on this one.

If you want even better sound for music as well, I'd recommend the BIC Venturi system, but with a little more of a budget. I'd recommend the DV84 towers, the CLR-S center, and either two or four DV62 bookshelves for the rear (depending on what receiver you run). You can match the system with their V1220 12" sub, or go with something like this:

http://www.ubid.com/actn/opn/getpage.asp?AuctionId=901068654

Whatever you do, get as much as you can with your budget. You don't want to look back and say "man, I wished I would have upgraded to the bigger system." With the superb sound your new XBOX will give, you'll want to take advantage. You can always piece the sound system together - month by month.

BTW, is this budget inclusive of a receiver, or speakers only?

I'd recommend the DV84 towers
Why not the DV64's? Bic claims 27Hz with the 84's compared to 29Hz with the 64's. Also, Ed Frias will modify the 64's, but not the 84's. They're also cheaper and if you are using a sub there probably won't be much difference. The mids might even be tighter with the 64's.

.....can someone posts links on the 64's and the 84's?....with 62's for bookshelf surrounds, there could be your system that could whip a few price levels above it.....

.....guys, how are you going to beat a meal from Church's Chicken?....hey, the wings, with that huge pod of white meat left on the end....out on the end of that pod of white meat is the best bite in commercial chicken if they haven't cooked it too long and it's dry....sorry, Colonel, 2nd place, and I frequent your buffet also....Popeye's is a lot more proud of their stuff than I am, period....where were we?....oh yeah, guys, trust me, commercially produced footballs have no exteriorly-attached feathers.....

ok so heres the deal guys...I got sort of an idea, well kind off...I was wable to up my budget another 500$...so now where at 1500$ for everything, receiver, speakers and sub...now again im looking for the following:

DVD movie watching with amazing sound (like in teh movies)
Playing my xbox 360...when someone shoots me by behind on the left, thats hwere i want to hear it...
I want to be able to wow people when I want to show off my system, but I also want to be able to use it at reduced volumes when everyone is asleep...anyways let me know. Also do any of you know of any large chains that i may find at a store, simply because it would help a lot f i could finance it over 6-12 months...also what if i were to buy piece by piece, lets say buy floor speakers now, put them on my current receiver, then slowly buy everything needed?

anyways any and all help is greatly appreciated...Thank you all very much!

If I had a $1500 budget, I would be tempted to try out the new SVS speakers. They're not available yet, but if they are in the same league as their subs as far as performance, quality and value, then I would definitely consider them. Here's a link http://www.svsubwoofers.com/news.htm

$900 for a full 5.1 system.

You can mount the speakers on the walls since they are sealed enclosures. SVS has a 45 day money back guarantee if you aren't happy with them.

With the leftover cash you can get a nice receiver like a refurbed HK435 or a pioneer 1015. You'll still have cash leftover for cables/wires.

I can't believe I'm recommending a system that I've never heard. I guess I'm just confident that SVS wouldn't produce something that couldn't compete with speakers in the same price bracket.

There are so many options at that price range, good luck.

There are alot of options at the $1000-$1500 mark.

Check out Aperion, Acsend Acoustics, AV123, SVS, BIC (Ed Frias modified).

I think getting 3 modded BIC DV-62CLRS, 2 modded DV-62si and the BIC Acoustech H100 sub will run you ~$1030 plus shipping. You could also stick with the Mains/Center/Rears and use the extra money on killer sub like the HSU. For ~$200 more you could get the HSU VTF2-MK3. This should still allow $300 for a receiver (or there abouts).

AV123 has 5.1 systems for under 900 with MTM arrangement for Center and Front L/R.

Aperion has the Intimus 422 and 422 HD (HD has a 10" sub vs 8") for $799 and $1019 respectively. Given the driver complement though, I would go w/ AV123 or BIC first. Just my opinion
