If anyone is in the market for $1500 floorstanders I heard a pair yesterday that knocked me off my feet. I was at my local audio shop checking out what they had (to see if the upgrade bug would bite) and he let me hear these modest sized QUAD 22L($1600) floor standers that sounded incredible. The bass response out of the speakers were stunning...I literally checked every sub in his showroom to make sure he wasn't trying to pull a fast one. The spec sheet claims they're rated down to 30 Hz (+- 3db) and after listening I believe it! I compared it to the B&W 704's($2200) and Thiel1.6($2300) and it blew them out of the water. It's not just the bass either...across the entire spectrum the frequency reponse and sound stage was excellent. They were being driven by a Rotel reciever...but so were the other speakers.

Funny thing was I wasn't familir with QUAD but the dealer said they are a Brit company known for Electostatic speakers but have now gone conventional.
Just as amazing as the sound was the quality piano gloss wood finishes.
Even put the B&W's to shame. I don't know how they do it at that price.

If you're in the market for great inexpensive speakers check them out. They also make a smaller floor stander, book shelves you can use as surrounds and a $500 center as well. I'm seriously thinking about selling off all my Polks and changing up! They were the only speakers in the group that I thought sounded better than my LSi15's. (Fortunetely he had those in his showroom as well so I was able to compare). The weird part was the Quads were the only speakers that had a LOWER list price as well. Go figure.

Has anyone else had experience with these speakers? What are your impressions?

I Once Was A Big Fan Of B&w For Years. But, After I Experienced The Quad Set 22l 11l And The Center, I Immediately Made Decision To Quad. I Been Using Them For A While, Not Very Popular. I Also Posted In Another Thread Asking For Help To Find A Sub That'd B A Match For The Quad. So, I Think I'm Gonna Get Svs Sub.
But Really, I Think Quad Really Sound Incredible For Both Ht And Music.

A sub suggestion...

After being floored by the 22L by themselves the salesman found a perfect sub match for them...the Sunfire supercube. At $1000 it is not cheap, but it added the perfect subtle match for the laid back QUAD sound.

The supercube has two 8 inch drivers driven by a 1500watt sunfire subamp.
It's quite compact as well. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it doesn't have a grill cover for the drivers which in a house with animals and/or
kids is not a good idea.

I'm not sure what the reason for that is...thanks for the feedback!
