Hi there, i own this micro hifi system, it has a total output power of 80x2 160watts rms. the speaker impedance is 6 ohms. if i replace the speakers with pair of pioneer bookshelf speakers (SP-BS22-LR) or some other nice pair for that matter, will there be considerable change in sound quality.

i have added a pic of the amplifier section of the system.

anything is appreciated. thanks.

Anytime you replace speakers, you can expect a change in sound quality, because no two speakers sound the same. The new ones may sound better, or they may sound worse, but they will sound different. That’s a given. It has nothing to do with the amplifier.

yeah, you're right. should've typed increase instead. you see i don't think the amp is an audioholics quality one, it been lying around for some time now, thought i would experiment. before that thought i might ask. somebody will have something nice to say.

Don't worry if the amp is "Audioholics quality". We're generally into this for musical pleasure, not gear snobbery. It would probably be a good idea for you to view amps from a practical standpoint (based on speaker sensitivity, room size and distances to the speakers, etc), and get picky with speakers, as they by and large dictate the quality of the sound you'll get.

That being said, that amp is modest. If you decide to go with speakers that are similarly or less sensitive than the ones you currently use, you may require more power. If this is for a desktop/nearfield rig, maybe not.

In order to get an increase in volume with new speakers, the new speakers would simply have to be more sensitive than the older ones. (There would still be other qualitative differences, so no guarantee you would enjoy them any more, but they would get louder.)
