NAD T785 A/V Receiver - REVIEW

I bought a NAD T785 in good faith that I was getting a top quality piece of equipment from a reputable company.

The digital audio stopped working after 8 months of light use

I was told by my local dealer that the part I need, the DSP PCB (50-918-0775-90) will cost $800 because Lenbrook (they either own or distribute NAD) informed them they will not cover it under warranty!!!!!

I am disgusted with NAD... I pay thousands of dollars for a high end AV receiver that breaks after less than a year and they won't stand by their product.

As a 32 year old well-off consumer that is as loyal as a blood hound when treated right, I will NEVER buy another piece of equipment from any NAD related company again... Take this as a warning as I urge whoever is considering purchasing NAD, to purchase a different brand.

The $1k it will cost me to fix the T785 (parts and labor), doesn't concern me very much... It's the fact that a supposed high-end company won't stand by its product. I'm a VERY principled person and they've done well to create an advocate for their competition.

I will repeat... I am absolutely disgusted by NAD and feel defrauded by the brand. At the end of the day... They will lose tens of thousands of dollars more in lost business than it would have cost them to replace the $800 part, broken on a less than one year old piece of equipment.

Message me if you'd like any more specific details on this nightmare!

This isn't a review, it's more of a report of bad service.;) I've never been a fan of NAD, so this makes me more warry of their products in terms of new purchases. A company like NAD should offer top shelf service for the products they sell. In terms of features and other fluff offered they should excel in other areas such as customer service and warranty.

Nice to see that NAD's customer service hasn't changed after all these years

For what the T785 sells for, I would have bought monoblocks from Emotiva (UPA-1) or Outlaw (M2200) combined with a pre/pro and probably still come in cheaper.

Who is the reputable company that the receiver was purchased from ?

Sounds like this might be a case of a product purchased from a company who is not an authorized dealer.

There are many reputable companies who are not authorized dealers for products.

I feel your pain. I really do. But if the company was not an authorized dealer then NAD is not at fault.

Rule #1 when purchasing big ticket items. Always purchase from authorized dealers.

Now if the the company you purchased the receiver from is an authorized dealer and you have proper documentation to back up the purchase and its still within warranty, then they should repair the receiver with no questions asked. I would escalate the issue until your receiver is fixed especially if you have proper documentation and its an authorized dealer.

Andrew;

Did you purchase your NAD through an authorized dealer? If not then its possible NAD won't honor your warranty.

I used to be a fan of NAD when they sold products that performed as well as high-end stuff or better but cost just a fraction. I had an Adcom preamp and an NAD 2200 and that amp was fantastic, except the relays wore out.

Did you buy through a reputable dealer? The few times I've had an issue with my gear the dealer I bought it from took care of it for me. They either provided me with a loaner or exchanged it for a newer piece of gear. I didn't have to talk to the manufacturer ever.
