I'm new here so I'll start by saying hello to all the regulars.

I'm looking at upgrading my receiver. Before anyone starts posting recommendations for the Yamaha, Sony, Dennon...etc. I want to say that I'm im the market for something on the higher end scale. I was looking at the NAD T773 and was wondering if anyone here has one.

I am also open to comments on:

Adcom
Rotel
Sunfire
Krell

Thanks for your time.

I was set on the T773 until I found out that i could get a B&K AVR507 for roughly the same price. I went with the B&K and have been pleased. It doesnt have HDMI or all the fancy features but I think its built well and made for sound quality.

What does that 773 have that the Yamaha or Denon or Onkyo doesn't have?
Processing power? Power? inputs/outputs? A high end name?

I heard NAD was having some reliability issues recently.

If it were me I would get seperates for that kind of money, particularly Outlaw.

So, it is a 110W x7, all channels driven is claimed at both 8 ohms and 4 ohms. Not impressive, for about $1800.
I think you may want to look at other makes.

Maybe a Denon or a Yam of equal $ might be somewhat better:D

high end receiver....

If I was going to buy a hight end receiver it would be the Lexicon RV-8. I am looking at it and trying to figure out how I can run that past the wife....

I think your speakers should determine the power requirements of your set up. Most higher end speakers need higher amp output to reach peak performance and that's why we have separates! Most amp's or mid fi receivers would be able to push any speaker system regardless of cost!!! I'd put my Denon up against all other amp & receivers rated with the same power!:)

I almost went with a NAD myself but then went with my second Yamaha (this time an RX-V series from the old DSP series). This was mainly due to quality concerns with the NAD. I'd love a Sunfire or Krell, but I'm on a limited budget. My brother has a Rotel preamp that he loves, but that's all I know. for the money, if you're considering spending $$ on the brands you listed, then go for it. If you want bang for the buck on gear that isn't as sexy, you may want to consider Yamaha, Denon or Outlaw. Crap...you didn't ask for Yammie, Denon, etc...
I like NAD, but I think the Outlaw stuff is just as good, if not better.

Have you demoed Macintosh? :D

Try talking about it everyday that you are going to do it sooner or later (explain the reasons even if they are not reasonable) for a year and see if you get the okay eventually. Or just do it and accept the consequence/risk. The Lexicon will get you more respect than the B&K will but if you are going to spend that kind of money why not go separates. With separates regardless of whether you can hear much difference in SQ, at least there are more things to play with, and more power.

I have owned a NAD T753 for a year and a half. I absolutely love it and the sound was night and day compared to my5 year old Yamaha receiver. Controls are simple, remote is great, Power is Very good. I have read about NAD quality control issues, but I think that was mainly past tense. The T773 is supposed to be a great unit, I just couldn't afford it at the time.

I would recommend NAD. There isn't many NAD friends on this forum, but don't despair.

There is a night and day difference between my new Yamaha receiver and one from 4 years ago.

I have the 773. I will tell you that it is awsome. Go and listen for yourself. I have owned several brands of good recievers in the past (Elite, Yamaha, Denon) the NAD is the best sounding Reciever I have owned to date.;)

Just curious

I would like to know what makes them better? I've heard the nad t-753 and the t-763 and they are clean. However, I decided to get the denon 3805, a MUCH better receiver for all around H/T with as much punch as the NAD's with no regrets.
