Nad T753

Jason/all, I have a NAD T753 with exactly the same problems. They want $360 to fix it. What did you do about yours and does anyone else out there have a recommendation regarding repair or replace? Thanks.

My T753 has the same problem

Hi Jason,

I had a T752 which spent so much time in the repair shop over three separate issues I eventually lost my cool and demanded a swap-out. The Sydney NAD agent arranged for a T753 in place of my T752. Cool, all was going well until it was just out of warranty - now it has the same problem you describe.

I'm running it in the open with the lid off and working on isolating the fault. It appears to be heat related as it takes much longer to drop out when room temp is low, and above 25 deg C it occurs within 30 minutes. I was hoping it would be mechanical (dry solder) but I fear a dicky microprocessor. Further diagnosis will occur this week. Stay tuned.

It sounds like a short of some kind. As heat builds up two contacts that are very near to one another might expand (even just a tiny bit) and cause the screen and the greater part of control functions on the receiver to cease function. It certainly doesn't sound like something that should cost $360 to repair. Microprocessor is very possible as the circuits inside are very near to one another. NAD might have gotten a bad batch of that part. A company with that reputation should be more selective about parts.

You are right, this will be a temperature related solid state device fault. There is a cold spray that technicians use to spray on the devices which can help isolate temperature sensitive faults.

If you find it, you then have to decide if you have the skills replace the component.

From the sound of it they must have had a bunch of bad components from their supplier. Usually the problem is a batch of solid semiconductor with impurities. Unfortunately a manufacturer has no way of knowing this until a period of time passes.

Hey Seth, I guess they should of bought an Onyko:D. Nad's receivers have always had issued and their CS is rather poor, IMO enough said.
