Is it true that a 50w RMS/ch NAD or NAIM is better and has more power than 100w RMS/ch of Yamaha, Onyo, Denon or Pioneer amplifier/receiver?

Any comments on this and thanks?

Ehh...

Many times, companies like H/K, NAD, NAIM, etc. are more honest about power ratings so their 50w rating is comparable to a higher power rating from Yamaha, Denon, etc. Many times these companies also use beefy power supply sections in their products. So kind of yes...but at the same time kind of no...

To begin with, Naim amp is very sensitive to cable capacitance, a poor design.

Second, your question would depend on speaker load with this RMs power, but, the Yam has a 3 dB spl advantage over NAD, if the two are rated equivantly.

So would you mind giving me an idea which brand is better in terms of stereo or 2.1 ch amplifications (with sub output)? Price range at $700.

Thanks and regards,

At a price range of $700...what are you looking for in terms of features? If this will forever be a 2 channel system with intention of becoming a HT system (and you don't plan on listening to the radio), then I would look at the flagship integrated amplifiers from H/K, NAD, ATI, Arcam, Onix, and other brands at your local dealers. Onix is an online brand sold through AV123. A review of their top end integrated amp (the solid state one) is here. If you DO plan on using the radio, then a stereo receiver from the aforementioned brands, as well as others is another good option. You might also want to check out Audiogon and the classified section there. You can find a LOT of nice used equipment there for prices way under new retail.

Edit: another brand to consider: Rotel.
