NAD 7100 puzzle

My NAD 7100 receiver works flawlessly EXCEPT that the low level indicator light and function come on automatically when the unit powers up. I cannot turn it off with the panel switch and I have long lost the remote (and can't locate one). Is a bad switch a likely cause or does this indicate a worse problem? Any suggestions would be welcome.

Chances are good that it is not the switch but programmed internally? By chance called the maker?
