NAD 705 volume issue from remote

Hi all,

Just picked up NAD 705 for a nice deal. Looks practically new and appears to function very well, just needs the backlight replaced (common issue but I have an LED ready to go).

I'm using a universal remote and the functions work, but the volume has an anomaly. I can hear the motor noise inside the unit trying to raise/lower the volume when the up/down keys are pressed, which tells me the remote is working as it should.

Problem is, the volume level does not change at all and the front panel knob on the front does not turn. However, when you turn the knob by hand the volume changes just fine but the pot is very "stiff" (although this might be normal).

Any thoughts, pretty please? Thanks!!

Sounds like the drive is broken. You will have to open the unit up to find the cause. At a guess I suspect the volume control is seizing up and has broken the drive. I suspect you may have to install a new volume control and repair the drive.

Thanks for the reply. Kinda what I was afraid of, but I'm a bit of a noob so I thought getting the most advice possible was the best course.

A general search for parts doesn't turn up many results, so hopefully opening up the receiver will yield some useful numbers. Again, thanks for weighing in!
