Every so often we get lucky and a loudspeaker designer allows us to ping him with questions. Today, none other than Bill Dudleston, Legacy Audio's founder and President, joins us to answer some questions regarding the company's Aeris loudspeaker. We get to learn about the finer points of the system's DSP processor, why he chose an air motion tweeter (AMT) array versus a conventional tweeter, and more. Want to know the inside scoop? There is a hell of a lot of engineering going on in these amazing speakers: 4.5 way, active sealed bass with room correction, partial passive open baffle, and first speaker to use AMT tweeters. How Bill made something like that look and sound terrific instead of a Frankenstein audio monster speaks very highly of his skill as a speaker designer.

What center and monopole surrounds would be the right match with the Aeris speakers? I wasn't able to discern a correct match from the web site. All of this additional DSP makes it sound like there may not be a correct match, in the sense of some sound moving between the speakers during movie playback and not sounding like a different instrument as it transitions between speaker channels.

Thanks shadyJ.

Josuah, the ideal center channel for Aeris is either the Marquis HD or Silverscreen HD. The Marquis has the same dual 12" woofers as the Aeris, and the same top tweeter for a perfect match. Someone looking for a smaller format center channel can utilize the Silverscreen HD which also has the same top tweeter for continuity between speakers, in a smaller footprint.

For surrounds, the Phantom HD is ideal because it is a boundary compensate MS array. This allows it to provide the clear and direct signal with an even dispersion for a continuous listening environment without hot or dead spots. This results in smooth panning transitions between the Phantom HD and Aeris.

These speakers are designed to both integrate together, and also solve common problems in theater audio.
