So, what happens when one of the largest cable operators in the nation makes a deal for one of the big names in TV and movie content? People start to get worried. There are a lot of legal hoops for Comcast and GE (the current owner of NBC Universal) to jump through before this deal gets finalized. Regardless of what you think about streaming media generally or Hulu specifically, the death of Hulu would be a huge hit for online streaming. So either the Comcast/NBC Universal merger fails for legal reasons or it is a "fail" for all of us.

I'm not sure this will fail, considering who the head of GE is and since GE owns NBC, it's probably going to receive special treatment.

I really wish these companies would embrace online streaming. They seem to be pushing people towards getting their programing in more illegal ways. If I miss a show that I really want to see, I can see it one of two ways, watch it on their ad supported streaming or if they choose not to offer it, find a pirated version somewhere online.

With HD capture cards and PVR's it's incredibly easy for people to offer up these studio's content for free. There are even programs that automatically remove commercials out their. And it's not just downloading off places like pirate bay, you can find most TV shows and newer movies streaming online if you look for five minutes.

I'm trying to take the high road, HTPC setup with Hulu desktop, got netflix to see movies. But if they continue to avoid streaming for free or at least a reasonable price, people will continue to find ways around paying for their content.

I agree completely - this will just sail through the regulatory process. Comcast ensured that when they agreed to leave the Obama Administration's cheerleader-in-chief Jeff Zucker in charge of NBC. As long as there is no danger of NBC and especially MSNBC slipping out of the president's bed the deal will go through.

If you can come up with a way that would make money for them by the carload, they'd surely listen. If not, don't bet on it- they don't do anything out of the kindness of their hearts.

I'm just thinking that the money they could make off the advertising on hulu or other websites aren't going to be enough in their eyes or they'll be afraid of making their content available on the internet. So more people will find content elsewhere.

Not only do they enjoy charging too much for what they offer, they like to make people jump through as many hoops as possible, for as long as possible, before taking away content, features and offers.
