Pioneer put on quite a show at the IT Month fair in Taipei, Taiwan yesterday. They call it the super multi-layer Blu-ray disc. So far it's a read-only optical disc but it reaches into a total capacity of 400 GB on 16 separate layers.

Wow, that girl is cute. Keep her holding the BR in her left, and put a big ole gun in her right, lean her on a nice muscle car and I'd be in heaven. :D

Hi!

There is a misunderstanding on your web.
"it’ll work on standard old Blu-ray disc players "

The super multi-layer disc cant work on old BD players.
Because the conventional BD pickup cannot playback all information layers of the 16-layer disc completely.

: )

Thanks.

quoting the source article:

" and therefore the Pioneer discs can be read on BD players, the company said."

From EngadgetHD:
"DigiTimes report asserts that these are indeed compatible with Blu-ray readers already on the market."

So, I think it's obvious that not EVERY player will work... you can't even playback all movies on your Blu-ray player at home. I might have wanted to note that. But the goal is that they should.

I'm Pioneer's FAE.
DigiTimes report is not correct.
So I think i need to do some explaination.

1. This is a technology exhibit only, and is not being proposed as
a candidate for addition to the Blu-ray Disc format at this time.
2. Current Blu-ray optical pickup designs could be utilized in new
players/drives designed to read these discs.
3. Current BD players and drives would not be able to play/read
these discs.

Thank you.

That sounds pretty cool. But still that's something long away.

Thanks for the info, man.

It's great to get real-time updates like this!

Whatever FAE stands for... maybe it's just FAE... like he's pio's Fae... could be a Japanese thing. Pronounced like Fay... or Fey but more olde Enlish/Nipponese and fancy-like. He's called the Fae but since it's all CAPS so it's said kind of ANGRY... FAE...

I'm the FAE Motor Scratcher! What the HECK are YOU!

Okay, time for more coffee.

I'm all for tis new disc... one firmware update on the PS3 and it should have no problems reading those discs... think about how many hrs. of porn you could fit on a single 400 gig blu ray disc

So, is it Clint's official editorial policy that no non-negative article concerning Blu-ray will pass muster unless at least token nay-saying is added?

Yes Clint, we know you are holding out for solid state. Thing is, I don't remember this solid-state evangalism popping up when the site was reviewing HD-DVD discs. (Has Audioholics reviewed a BD disc yet, btw?)

They routinely smush 3 hours w/ minimal extras onto a single layer 25G disc. 16x3=48. Therefore, you can get 48 hours or 2 days non-stop (except for silly stuff like plots, credits, scene changes, etc.) of erotic content onto a 400GB disc. :p

What's funny is... I went to SOTU and met the Audioholics guys for the first time back in October. Did you know... they actually argue among themselves about what's what in audio/video?

Gosh I feel a rant coming on. Time to go have a glass of water.

Heh, the article stated what exactly I was thinking:
"One scratch" and the disc is toast. :D
