Yes, the OPRA Award is likely to become the most coveted accolade in a sea of meaningless trophies, certificates, and, um, plaques. The staff at OPRA International decided to meet and brainstorm the criteria… ah… criterion… um… stuff we’ll use to pick our winners. The first suggestion was to talk with Gene and Clint of Audioholics to pick their brains. Since that was the suggestion that required the least work on our part, the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

I think I have a company I would like to nominate. I'm sure that they wouldn't want to submit any of their own products for reasons of modesty.
Who else has a receiver that puts out 2500w and sells for a pittance on ebay? Take a look at the sheer connectivity on those receivers. They are 100% future proof. And don't be fooled by the mislabeling of guitars and amps on the home page. http://www.divincisound.com/product2.htm. I would pay to have them reviewed myself if I could afford it.

For all newbies that is sarcasam.

OPRA, Inc. Meetings

Quote OPRA, "Since we were meeting at a bar with, um… dancing if you know what I mean..."

 You went to the Doll House and didn't give me a call!

Next time we meet half way in Daytona.............

They are in California, otherwise we'd review it for a hoot. Those people (at least in this industry) are lawsuit-happy in our experience.

So do you think Audioholics is dumb for not charging for our awards when everyone else does? Or are we somehow doing the right thing... Personally, I think we're stupid. :)

I think you guys are missing the boat. What do you think Marissa Tomei had to pay for an Oscar? You guys could get a new yacht with some of that cube speaker marketing money. The SS'Aholic: Clint = the Professor
Gene = The Captian, Tom = Giligan. That's right Tom my little buddy :p .

Maybe paradigm would agree to reviews if they could line up the awards before submiting the products. LOL, just kidding, I like Paradigm, but I wish they'd send some samples.

Honestly, I think that manufacturers get weirded out when we don't ask for money. They start to think, "OK, what's the catch?" Well, now they can pay for an OPRA. They feel better, I feel better, Clint and Gene don't have to know about it... everybody is happy! :D

I personally think we are well represented by Really Excellent TARDS. (Isn't cousin Leo a TARD?)

BTW, near-field genuflecting is under-rated as a means of advancement, Tom. Watch out for that tactic before rating/ranking/selecting OPRA honoraria recipients.

You guys could retire in six months if you charged for awards. A few companies always seem to have their checkbooks open to glowing testimonials and awards. I'll give you three words to help you retire sooner:

Bose (did I say that  )
Definitive Technology
Paradigm

Now, do you sell your soul to the devil, or continue on the straight and narrow?

(I'm not ripping on Def Tech or Paradigm, but by some of their ads, you'd think they were the next best thing to sliced bread)

Sliced bread can't hold a candle to Deftechs superior subwoofers that hit well below 15Hz with 6inch drivers.

BTW, I AM ripping on Deftech.

I think you guys should start up forum awards. That would be fun, and maybe take some tension out of the forums.

Hey I clicked the link here, and something else I noticed that was interesting. Look at the photo of the stereo system in the room. The Television and the stand reflect in the shiny waxed floor, but the SPEAKER does NOT! hmmmm

I love how the best video input is s-video! Future proof? It's better than that, it's Past proof! The upside is that the rear panel is nice and clean looking. Not all those pesky Component and HDMI inputs to get in the way of all 24 billion watts of power. I'd review one of those in a heart beat. Here's the preview:

"With the 2098 I heard things I've never heard before. Material I didn't even know was on the CD. Sounded like cellophane crackling and amps clipping. Plus, a little known fact is that the 2098 is also equipped with the latest Smell-o-vision DSP. After a few minutes of operation, you will find yourself immersed in the heady aroma of melting plastic and singed circuit boards. Ah, smell that? That's 2000 whatts of unadulterated scentastic power..."
