Ask OPRA: Motorcade of Ignorance! Vol 4

From time to time OPRA is asked to give his opinion on something he actually knows about. Luckily, that time hasn’t come yet. Still, unable to control his noise hole, he’ll once again unenlighten the darkness of your confusion. This week OPRA answers such questions as: What is the best speaker for you?, How many watts can my speaker take if it says 250 watts on the back?, and How do I best express my views on the Internet? Yeah, we know - this kind of in-depth insight should cost you money, but we're giving it away for free...

Best OPRA article to date. Now I feel like I know how to opine with the best of them...

Sure it was a great article but it did not help me figure out what speakers are best for me.

I think I'll start a new thread.;)

Some of the best advice I've seen yet :)

I thought those were universal SOP's for interaction on a forum.

(No, but really, people need clean power)

Opine? Is that short for 'pining for things starting with O'? (Like OPRA, of course.) But I dunno...I'm just opining, myself. ;)

Hey, I agree. That is indeed the best OPRA smack-down yet! I feel a gentle and fresh breeze blowing over the forum already! Good show.

First of all, a set of five speakers with a sub mounted in random closets around your house is totally ok. At that price, the only way to make them sound worse is to actually put them in the room with you.
Priceless :D

I am clearly going to have to change my arguing tactics.

As for my speakers... Amazingly enough it seems to make sense that my $50.00 HTIB package (with DVD player!) DOES actually sound better when I put all the speakers in the hall closet.

Good thing I'm blasting them with my 4,000 WPC Akai receiver!

Oh... and what does 48%THD@3W mean anyway?

Feminine hygene products to the rescue!!!!!!!!!:D

OPRA,

You included almost every prominate member/ex-member and heated steam vent post. I did think of a couple of more if you ever need a jump start. (ya' right):)

Well done,

You are spot on in your speaker recomendations. I've thrown out my subwoofer & have a new one on order, it's a bit big - 6 1/2 inch paper cone, rather than the 6 inch you recommend; but it is nice & light. Next up will be new center & mains, as I'm sure that the extra conductivity of silver colored speakers will be great.

While clean power is important, you are incorrect in thinking that it is the primary means of getting that truly linear, warm, chocolaty sound. If you were a real audiophile, you'd know that the most important thing is to invest in high end custom power cords for all your equipment.

This is the most important audio article in the history of the universe; I learned so much. Probably saved my marriage with the speaker-in-a-closet, and tweeter-on-a-stick ideas.

And I am so happy to hear about that clean power stuff. Now I'm convinced that dirty electrons have been building up in my $199 audiophile system I got from the guys in the white van. They gave me a lifetime guarantee, but I haven't been able to locate them since I gave them my credit card number....

Forum proof reader. Another one for the next eddytorial.

er...*no*, dude. The point of the joke was that 'spelling nazi' is *already* on the OPRA list. That the misspelled word was 'cretins' made it irresistible -- to me, anyway. Mr. Andry got it, but you seem to think I'm totally clueless.
That's twice in one week that my attempts at humor have been interpreted that way. It's most disconcerting. I'm not sure how I can get my posts across to you. Can the Forum *please* start offering ginormous smileys as an option?

 (<--not really.)
