My Song Tower-RTs Have Arrived

And I may have to undergo an emergency grinectomy because my face is starting to hurt. :D

Hot dang Jim makes a great speaker. So far I've just setup the two Song Tower-RTs and the Song Center-RT. The Song Surrounds will just have to wait a bit and due to space issues may wind up in my bedroom. I've been listing to a wide variety of music since yesterday afternoon: Blu-Rays of Diana Krall's Live In Rio and Legends Of Jazz Showcase. Plus favored music selections such as Acoustic Alchemy's Arcan'um, The Eagle's Hell Freezes Over, Fourplay's Best Of Fourplay, Jewel's This Way, Mannheim Steamroller's Freshaire III, Rodrigo y Gabriela's 11:11, and Peter White's Glow. The word that comes to mind is wow! I've heard some amazing speakers in the past, including some that cost quite a bit more but none that I like better. That dang grin just won't go away! :D

They aren't quite as efficient as my old BA VR3 towers (93db) but the big Onkyo TX-NR906 seems to be driving them just fine. To take a bit of load off the Onkyo I'm crossing over to my PB12 Plus/2 at 60hz but it's just flat obvious that there is bass capability to spare in the Songs. Kick drums feel crisp and strong and the highs are amazingly detailed. I can't get this darn grin off my face. :D

Please pardon my messy entertainment center but I didn't want to take the time to clean up the cabling before I posted photos. You'll note that because of placement issues I had Jim make these with front ports. I really like the full length of the black plate, although he Ports could probably use some kind of decorative something. But I'm far more interested in function than WAF (I'm happily single).

"Need an emergency grinectomy because your face is starting to hurt!" That sounds familiar :D.

I'm glad to see how the front ports worked out so nicely. They look great. Enjoy them!

If you use your surrounds as a separate 2-channel system, you'll find that they make excellent speakers by themselves.

After the 30-day return period ends, you'll learn the Secret Salk Owner's Handshake, but until then, I'm sworn to secrecy .

Congrats. They look absolutely fantastic! :D To me, your pics of them look better than the pics on their webpage! I wish I had room for them.

I'm curious, have you listened to them in 2 channel mode?

How is the matching center channel? I don't think I've read any reviews on it.

I listened to 2 channel with and without a sub and yes they sound wonderful both ways. :D

The Song Center is a big beast and is supposed to be identical to the large Song Surround 2 bookshelves, only with the tweeter rotated for horizontal placement. Because of placement issues I went with the slightly larger front ported option.

I really don't have the space for them in the family room and if I don't wind up using them in there then down the road I may talk to Jim about building me one more so I can use 3 of them as the LCRs for my master bedroom. But for now that's just dreaming - I'm broke until I save up some more toy money. ;)

I Finally Setup My Salk Surrounds Today

I had to install shelves first but they're finally in. I never thought that bookshelves would work for surrounds in this little tiny space but holy crap do they work. The closest one is only about 3' away and 45 degrees to my left rear but wow. Gone are the dipolar side surrounds and bipolar rear surrounds replaced by a single pair of SS1s and I could not be happier. My first test was Diana Krall's Blu-Ray of Live In Rio and it was simply amazing how much I had been missing. Next up the opening 5 minutes from the Blu-Ray version of the movie Serenity. They work just as well for movies. I can't say enough about about the sound. They aren't cheap but as far as I'm concerned the Song Towers are a terrific bargain!
